Regal Princess & Monarch of the Seas
May 28th, 2007 was on Memorial Day Monday this year and so it was with great excitement I noted that Princess Cruises' 69,825grt Regal Princess of 1991 was to be in dock at San Pedro with Monarch of the Seas.  When we arrived around 2pm we found the Ports O'Call area bustling and more busy than I had ever seen it before.  Since Regal Princess was to leave around 4pm, we had plenty of time to take the strangely crowded harbor cruise to see the pretty ships.
Regal Princess was orginally ordered along with sister ship Crown Princess (I) for Sitmar but came under P&O operation for their Princess Cruises arm when they took over Sitmar in 1988.  Designed by Renzo Piano, Regal's rounded bridge and traditionally round funnel give her a unique profile.
Named by former Great Britain Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, she has an expansive art collection on board.  I was especially keen to see her in her current colors because this is her last season as Regal Princess.  After her final sailing from Los Angeles on August 31st to Sydney, Australia she is going to be Pacific Dawn for P&O Australia.
