Review
Ashley and Paddy worry about Zoe's confused behaviour. News of Debbie and Cain reaches the Dingles when a family relative turns up. Robert's two-timing blows up in his face when Donna and Elaine clash.

The horror of the events at the manor reverberate around the village, as the locals try to get to the bottom of the tragedy and gossip about possible motives.

Meanwhile, the police begin their investigations and Zoe is surprised at how well Joseph has taken the news. After learning the cause of death from the post-mortem detectives begin to dissect the crime scene and remove the computers from the house hoping they might find some evidence.

Meanwhile, the police finally find some crucial evidence, and make an arrest within the village.

EMMERDALE Sunday 21 September 2003 at 7.00pm on ITV1 Network Lisa (JANE COX) and Marlon (MARK CHARNOCK) look on as Charity (EMMA ATKINS) is arrested.

Elaine asks Frances to make an excuse for her not going to work so that she can go and talk to Robert about the situation with Donna. Elaine says he must tell Donna about them.

Robert goes to find Donna but she doesn’t want to see him. He goes to Elaine and lies that he told Donna the truth. Donna appears in time to see them kissing and runs off in tears.

Sunday 21st September at 7.00pm on the ITV1 Network Pictured: Donna (VERITY RUSHWORTH), Robert (KARL DAVIES) and Elaine (SAMANTHA McCARTHY). Donna is upset when she sees Robert and Elaine kissing.

Elaine follows her and Donna retaliates by saying that she slept with Robert a couple of days ago.

Elaine calls her a liar and attacks her. Bob, Eddie and Alistair pull them apart. Afterwards Elaine sees Robert and hits him.

Conclusive evidence - the police continue their investigatioms

Elsewhere in the village, a familiar face appears at the Dingles, when stripper Chastity turns up explaining her landlord has kicked her out after Cain and Debbie arrived.

Meanwhile, the police finally find some crucial evidence, a trace of poison from Charity’s car. They arrest Charity as she is about to leave Emmerdale to find Debbie.
Donna sees Robert and Elain kissing

Review
The police uncover shocking evidence in the recent murder enquiry. A hurt Donna seeks revenge on Elaine and Robert. Steph and Pollard are convinced their double dealing at Rodney's expense will reap rich dividends.

After examining the crime scene at Home Farm, the police think they have struck gold as all the evidence points to one suspect, who they frog march in for questioning. At the station, the detectives give their suspect an intensive grilling, but the charge of murder is violently denied.
Having not made much ground, the police keep the suspect locked in a cell overnight.

Meanwhile, villagers draw their own conclusions about the death at Home Farm and gossip spreads like wildfire.

Ashley worries about pale Zoe’s state of mind and is further concerned when the police visit her again. During questioning by the police Zoe's fierce loyalty to Chris causes her to be economical with the truth.

Monday 22nd September 2003 at 7.00pm on the ITV1 Network Pictured (L-R): Zoe (LEAH BRACKNELL), Keysall (JOHN BRANWELL), DS Pugh (BILLIE-CLAIRE WRIGHT) and Ashley (JOHN MIDDLETON). Pale and close to tears, Zoe is questioned by the police.

Later, Zoe admits to Ashley that she hasn’t been taking her prescription and he suggests they call the psychiatric nurse.

Bob tries to cheer despondent Donna up. Robert tells Elaine that Donna was lying about them having slept together since he’s been seeing Elaine. Donna visits Elaine but she is out. Frances and Ronnie invite her in and in an outburst she tells them that Elaine has stolen her boyfriend and bursts into tears. Ronnie is furious but Frances is sympathetic towards Donna, telling her that she must be too good for Robert. As Donna goes to leave Elaine and Robert walk in hand in hand and she is disgusted. Later, when Robert leaves, Ronnie goes after him and warns him off.

Elsewhere in the village, Shadrach confesses a few home truths to Lisa, as he admits being a terrible father to Chastity and even stealing money from her.

ITV.COM Zoe starts to crack Monday 22.09.03
Ashley and Zoe
As the murder case evidence continues to mount up against Charity so does the pressure on Zoe, who is finding it increasingly difficult coping with the suspicious circumstances surrounding her brother’s death.

At the police station Charity is informed that traces of poison have been found in her car. The pleas that the evidence must have been planted there seem far-fetched to the police. Charity tries to illustrate what her husband was capable of by explaining how Chris tried to set Scott with rape. However, when questioned on this matter Zoe is fiercely loyal to Chris, denying all knowledge of the attempted frame.

Later on Ashley finds Zoe in a terrible state. After admitting that she hasn’t been taking her medication, Ashley suggests they see the psychiatric nurse.

The police later find Cain Dingle’s fingerprints in Home Farm. Unaware of the new evidence, Charity pointedly denies seeing anyone else in the house the night Chris died.

Marlon is certain that Cain was responsible for killing Chris and is furious that he’s left Charity to cover for him. Returning home to all the shocking news Lisa insists that Marlon keep his distance from the police investigations.
Donna  talks to Frances about her broken heart.
Elaine forgives Robert after he promises that nothing has happened with Donna recently. A tearful Donna turns up at the Marsden’s looking for Elaine but instead finds Ronnie and Frances so tells them that their daughter has been seeing Robert while she has been sleeping with him!

Frances has a heart to heart with the teenager, but the self-confidence pep talk goes down the pan when Robert and Elaine walk in arm-in-arm, sending Donna back into a state of paranoia and fury.

Shadrach admits to Lisa that the last time he saw Chastity he stole her savings for booze.

At the factory Lisa is perturbed by Steph’s foot being placed firmly under Pollard’s office door. In the Woolpack the two new partners in crime continue to plot against Rodney.

Review
The Dingles are in disarray over the murder inquiry when Marlon insists on speaking to the police. Rodney's money-spinning deal hits a major stumbling block. Ashley helps Chastity in her job search.

After intensively grilling their prime suspect, there is a sudden sense of relief, as the police appear to be making headway. Cracking under pressure, the accused finally begins to talk. The police are bewildered when the murder case takes a sudden U-turn and a new suspect comes into the equation.

Desperate to escape a murder charge the interviewee decides to dramatically change their statement, pointing the finger firmly elsewhere. The police are forced to let their original suspect go, as they begin to search for the new candidate.

Rodney is on tenterhooks after borrowing money to invest in a million pound disused mansion with the intention of converting it into flats. He is left facing financial ruin when the planning permission is turned down due to Pollard's meddling.

Rodney is horrified and asks Pollard about the possibility of bribing the mayor but Pollard warns him against it. Rodney tells Danny that he will have to sell the antique shop and can no longer employ him.
Elsewhere, Chastity is settling well into the village. Ashley promises to put a good word in for her as she asks about bar work in the Woolpack.

Marlon decides to make a statement to the police

After a night behind bars Charity’s further interrogated following more condemning evidence.

The police have discovered that the poison purchased over the Internet using Charity’s login and she signed the delivery note.

Meanwhile Marlon decides to make a statement to the police about Cain leaving the Dingles brandishing a knife and declaring that he was going to kill Chris on the night of the murder.

Lisa is furious that Marlon has decided to grass up a family member up and begs him to re-consider but to no avail.

Totally against the advice of her legal brief, Charity decides to admit to the police about Cain being at Home Farm.

However, fearful of being sent to prison for a crime she didn’t commit, Charity decides to implicate Cain by telling them that he killed Chris.

With various holes apparent in Charity’s new version of events the police are sceptical but put a warrant out on Cain’s arrest in order to get his story.
Rodney is a broken man  as he looks down at a glass of red wine
Pollard is delighted by Rodney’s reaction after he informs the wannabe millionaire that planning permission for the Mill has met with objections at the final minute resulting in it being turned down.

Rodney is a broken man as he contemplates his dire financial predicament over several whiskys in the Woolpack.

Review
The manhunt for Cain is stepped up as new evidence comes to light which leaves the Dingles divided. Rodney finds himself backed into a corner by Pollard. Ashley is pleased that Zoe is feeling better, but worries when news from the police sets her back again.

With Tricia in Bollywood making a blockbuster movie, Marlon has evidently been getting lonely. He gets more than he bargained for when he offers a shoulder to cry on to a close friend and they end up taking their frustrations out during a steamy session in bed. Devastated by his own actions, Marlon is mortified when he realises the implications his infidelity may bring on his relationship with unsuspecting Tricia.

Nicola tells Rodney she’s proud of him over his latest business venture. Rodney is weary but doesn’t tell her about his money problems. He later tells Pollard to pay back the cash he gave him. Instead, Pollard offers to buy the Mill from him so that he can pay off his debts, offering him £800,000 for it. Realising what he’s up to Rodney tells him to forget it and throws a glass of whisky in Pollard’s face.

The police sweep the Dingles, looking for Cain, who is now the prime suspect for the death at Home Farm. But their search is thwarted when Lisa keeps quiet, knowing full well that he is on the run with Debbie.

Meanwhile, Cain and Debbie lie low as the manhunt continues. Little do they realise the media frenzy their disappearance is causing, as the police make an appeal for people to come forward on national TV.

Elsewhere in the village, Zoe is still struggling to come to terms with her brother’s absence. She confides in Ashley that she has upped her medication fearing a schizophrenic relapse.

Cain is now the prime suspect for the murder of Chris Tate. The manhunt includes a national TV appeal for people to come forward with information of Cain and Debbie’s whereabouts. When the police visit the Dingle household it’s Marlon who lets the cat out the bag again telling them that Cain and Debbie had been staying with Chastity.

With both Marlon and Charity in the Dingle doghouse they are left to console each other over a bottle of wine. Marlon promises to stick by Charity through her ordeal however he gets more than he bargained for when she makes a pass at him. Despite his love for Tricia, Marlon can’t resist the temptation.

Elsewhere Rodney is reeling from the news that Pollard has been unable to secure his part of the Mill deal. Instead of returning the cash Rodney gave him, Pollard offers to buy the Mill from him so that he can pay off his debts, offering him only £800,000. Realising what he’s up to Rodney tells him to forget it and throws a glass of whisky in Pollard’s face. But Rodney’s predicament gets worse when the loan shark tells him he’s got one day before his first payment is due.
Chastity gets a trial run behind the bar
Chastity gets a trial run behind the bar in the Woolpack after Ashley persuades Louise to give her a chance. Jealous Laurel is hurt that Ashley holds Chastity in such high esteem. Meanwhile Shadrach is keen to make amends with his daughter, promising to pay back all the money he stole from her.

Despite taking her medication Zoe is struggling to control her mental state as she tries to come to terms with her brother’s absence.

Review
Rodney struggles to maintain his nerve as his dangerous game-playing in business threatens to ruin him. Len and Danny are far from elated by Ollie's good news. Robert thinks his luck is in, only for Donna to destroy the moment.

Her laid back attitude towards their fling disturbs Marlon further, as he mopes around depressed about his betrayal. With Tricia in mind, he admits he will never forgive himself.

Rodney’s money troubles are far from over as he confesses to Nicola that he was unable to meet his first repayment to the loan shark. As a result Rodney is forced to hide as a debt collector arrives at Mill Cottage to collect payment.

Determined to keep the wolf from the door, Rodney begs Pollard to return the money he has given him to obtain planning permission, but heartless Pollard couldn’t careless about his predicament only offering to buy the country mansion off him at a ridiculously discounted price.
Disgruntled Rodney fumes at Pollard’s underhand tactics, convinced that his newest employee, Steph has something to do with his greedy plans. But their budding relationship gives Rodney an idea. He gives Gloria a call in London, clearly but subtly dropping hints of Pollard’s bribes and his blossoming ‘relationship’ with Steph.

Elsewhere in the village, Donna is furious when she catches Elaine and Robert getting into mischief in the back of his car. Although Robert doesn’t mind rubbing salt in Donna’s wounds, Elaine is more sensitive to the matter and tells Robert to take her home.

Gloria's arrival threatens Pollard and Steph's plans, but Rodney is also left disappointed. Edna is ruffled by the growing closeness between Len and Pearl. Robert's frustrations boil over when Ronnie interrupts his time with Elaine.

Ollie is overjoyed when the news comes through, that she has won a place at Manchester University. But she finds herself in a moral dilemma when Danny presumes he will be moving with her. Troubled Ollie is reluctantly forced to admit she was planning to go alone, leaving Danny devastated by her rejection. Ollie does her best to convince him she will come home at weekends, but Danny can foresee that the distance will drive a wedge in their relationship.

Ollie is so pleased but what is the future for her and Danny?

Rodney’s plan has worked. No sooner has Gloria heard that Pollard may be up to his old tricks, than has she set foot in the village demanding answers. Although Pollard vehemently denies the affair with Steph, Gloria berates him for his underhand tactics with Rodney, ordering him to keep his nose clean to save her political career from scandal.

Elaine is forced to lie to her disapproving parents about spending time with Casanova Robert. But their concerns are justified as Robert still persists in trying to get Elaine into bed. Will she finally succumb to his womanising charms?

Elsewhere in the village, concerns grow for Zoe’s state of mind as the recent events take their toll on her health.

ITV.COM Rodney's Plan Backfires Friday 26.09.03
Gloria comes from London to confront Eric
Gloria arrives seeking the truth about what her husband has been up to in her absence. Rodney’s only too pleased to fill her in on Pollard’s dodgy dealings and alliance with Steph.
Sure that Gloria will persuade Pollard to keep his nose clean Rodney buys himself a few more hours when the loan shark.

Determined to get the bottom of it all Gloria pays Pollard a visit at the factory and is bemused to witness Steph with her feet firmly under the table. Gloria demands that Eric honour his deal with Rodney to avoid her name being dragged through the mud by the press. In a heated argument between the couple Pollard pointedly refuses Gloria’s requests, insisting that everything’s above board and that his relationship with Steph is platonic.

Confident that her marriage is not in jeopardy Gloria tells a frustrated Rodney that she can’t persuade Pollard to change his mind on the deal.

Elaine and Robert

Pearl suggests that Len organises Ollie a leaving party, which helps cheer him up over the fact his grandaughter is leaving the village.

Meanwhile Danny is hurt when Ollie tells him that it’s not a good idea for him to join her in Manchester.

Elaine and Robert’s romantic night alone at Andy and Katie’s place is interrupted by concerned father Ronnie, who shows up just as the couple are about to go upstairs.
