Review
The strain of keeping his fatal illness a secret from his family becomes too much for Chris. Charity is scared that her affair with Cain is about to be discovered. Chloe is shocked to discover she could be charged with neglecting a child after Jean's accident.

Chris is suspicious as to Charity’s whereabouts the previous evening. She claims to have been clubbing with Louise but disbelieving Chris heads to the Woolpack to check out her alibi. Charity manages to catch Louise in time and begs her to cover for her, but with Chris convinced his wife is cheating on him how long can she keep her affair with Cain under wraps?

Chris later cries tears of frustration when the reality of his illness hits home. He tries to spend the evening with Joseph to make the most of their time together, but his tired son falls asleep.

Meanwhile, Rodney is horrified to discover that a fairground has set up outside his house.

But things look up when one of the female workers takes a shine to him. The rest of the village is delighted by the arrival of the fair, and besotted Laurel drags Ashley on to the waltzers.

Chloe confesses to Siobhan that her mum has found her a nannying job in France. Will Chloe soon be bidding the village goodbye? She later goes for a meeting with her solicitor and is devastated to learn that she could face a future behind bars for neglecting Jean.

Charity's close call Monday 25.08.03
Chris is highly suspicious as to Charity’s whereabouts the previous evening. She claims to have been out clubbing with Louise but disbelieving Chris heads to the Woolpack to check out her alibi. Charity manages to catch Louise in time and begs her to cover for her. Remembering how she owes Charity a favour over Ray’s death, Louise reluctantly backs up the story, but Chris is sure she’s lying.

Chris later cries tears of frustration when the reality of his illness hits home. He tries to spend the evening with Joseph to make the most of their time together, but his tired son falls asleep.
Meanwhile, Rodney is horrified to discover that a fairground has set up outside his house. But things look up when one of the female workers takes a shine to him. When Katy spots Robert leading Elaine onto one of the rides she later questions him over his feelings for Donna.

Review
Syd finds himself placed in an awkward position, but is desperate to help Chloe. Rodney is surprised to discover old friends from his past when the fair comes to the village. Chris spends some precious time with Joseph.

Charity and Cain have a close call when a surveyor nearly catches them in the throws of passion!

The lovers secretly meet up in the stables at Home Farm and narrowly miss getting caught when the surveyor Charity had an earlier meeting with returns and interrupts them.
Afterwards Charity is livid when Cain implies that she is still prostituting herself. In anger the temptress responds by slapping him across the face before storming off.

Meanwhile, Debbie and Lisa return from their holiday and Lisa’s suspicions are immediately aroused when she picks up on something between Charity and Cain.

Rodney continues to flirt with fair worker Juanita and admits that he envies her unpredictable life. After a few drinks in the Woolpack, Juanita leads lucky Rodney off for a night of passion in her caravan.

Elsewhere in the village, Chloe is still beside herself with worry that she might go to prison and begs Syd to withdraw his statement to the police. A reluctant Syd agrees, until Siobhan lets it slip that Chloe is thinking of moving to France. Syd is furious that Chloe has been leading him on and a full-scale argument ensues.

Syd is taken for a ride Tuesday 26.08.03
Chloe is still beside herself with worry that she might go to prison. In an attempt to dig out of the hole she seduces Syd into agreeing to withdraw his police statement. But when Siobhan accidentally spills the beans about Chloe being offered a job in France, Syd realises that the sudden show of affection was part of her devious plan. After a huge argument it becomes clear to heartbroken Syd that Chloe has just been leading him on over the past few weeks.
After Charity turns down an offer to join Chris and Joseph on their zoo outing she arranges to meet up with Cain in the stables at Home Farm. The lovers are nearly caught out, however, by the surveyor who returns from a previous meeting to return Charity’s mobile phone. The steamy liaison ends in a slap round the face for Cain when he implies that Charity’s role in the Tate family amounts to prostituting herself. Having returned from Whitby, Lisa picks up on the unusual tension between Charity and Cain.
Rodney continues to flirt with fair worker Juanita and admits that he envies her unpredictable life. After Juanita leads lucky Rodney off for some passion in her caravan he starts to wonder whether it’s time to hit the open road again.

Scott is forced to sell his car to make ends meet financially after Chris doubles his rent.

Review
Syd is keen to impress upon Chloe the need for her to stay in the village. Ashley agrees to go speed dating with Louise and Laurel. Rodney is left with food for thought when the fair moves on.

After a night on the sofa, Syd tries to apologise to Chloe for their argument the evening before. But with a visit to the police station pending, she has more important things on her mind.

However, Chloe is later overwhelmed after being told that the charges against her have been dropped. Delighted, she cracks open a bottle of champagne to celebrate. Still annoyed that Chloe is considering a move to France, Syd tries to play it cool but can’t resist Chloe for long and the pair end up back in each other’s arms.

Rodney is in good spirits after his night with Juanita. Danny is left amazed to learn that Rodney is considering leaving the village to join the fair, tempted by a life on the road…

Meanwhile, Diane is amused by Louise’s decision to go speed dating. And when Ashley decides to join her, love-struck Laurel is quick to sign up, too. Later, Nicola gently reminds Laurel what happened last time as a result of her infatuation with Ashley. But with Laurel determined to win his heart, will it all end in tears?

Seducing Syd Wednesday 27.08.03
Syd tries to make amends over the blazing row with Chloe the previous night but with little success. Later Chloe instantly forgives Syd after finding out the police charges have been dropped. However, just as the relationship starts to get back on track, Syd overhears Chloe asking her mum whether the job in France is still available. Furious at Chloe’s persistent deception Syd tries to play it cool but can’t resist her for long and the pair end up back in each other’s arms.
After a night in Juanita’s caravan Rodney is flying high. Reminiscing about the fun he had during his previous life on the road he starts to consider leaving the village to join the fair. But when it comes to the crunch he can’t bring himself to leave, instead resolving to add more thrill and excitement to his life.

At the Woolpack Louise and Ashley decide to go speed dating. Laurel is quick to follow, ignoring Nicola’s words of warning about persuing her crush on the vicar again.
Chris insists that Charity join him for lunch at Terry’s house, stopping to pick up some champagne from the shop on the way. Spotting Cain Chris deliberately leans over to kiss his wife just to wind him up. The act has the desired effect as Cain immediately takes out his frustration on the nearest bystander, a bemused Scott.

Elsewhere the Marsden and Sugden families dig out their old 70’s clothes in preparation for the theme party.

Review
Laurel gets her hopes up of finally bagging Ashley at the speed dating. Chris rues the state of his relationship and tries to patch it up. Charity starts to recoil as Cain becomes more demanding.

Laurel counts down the hours until the speed dating and is only too happy to oblige when nervous Ashley asks her if she’ll help him prepare. However, Laurel is left disappointed when Louise also joins them for a rehearsal. Nicola warns her friend again that she is setting herself up for a fall. But hopeful Laurel says it is worth the risk because she knows she can make Ashley happy.

Meanwhile, Chris is frustrated when he struggles to play cricket with Joseph due to his lack of strength. He admits to Terry that he didn’t realise his health would deteriorate so quickly and in his depression turns to alcohol.

After smashing one of the lights on her dad’s car Elaine panics and asks Robert for help fixing it. Robert gets to work but despite his efforts Ronnie finds out anyway after finding the box from the new light on the drive.

Elsewhere in the village, Shadrach returns to the Dingles with his tail between his legs. But after his disloyalty to Zak will Lisa agree to let he stay?

And Syd is delighted when Chloe says that she has decided to stay with him, admitting that she does love him after all.

Mortality hits Chris Thursday 28.08.03
Chris’s forced to abort a cricket game with Joseph due to his failing health. Set on protecting his son from the truth he packs him off to a friend’s for the holidays. Shocked at how quickly his boss is deteriorating, Terry does his best to comfort the dying man. When Chris resorts to alcohol Terry tells his a few home truths about his life in a bid to provoke him into positive action.

Syd is thrilled when Chloe announces that she has decided not to take the job in France and that she loves him. Earlier, however, Scott overhears the vixen telling Siobhan that Syd is just a stopgap in her love life.
Laurel is over the moon when Ashley asks for her assistance with some practice for the speed dating. Dressed up to the nines she meets the vicar for a rehearsal in the Woolpack, only to find that Ashley has also invited Louise. Brushing away her disappointment Laurel focuses on polishing her performance for the real date.

Over at the Marsden’s Elaine gets in a sticky situation when she accidentally smashes her dad’s tailight. Young Robert comes to the rescue fixing the damage, but inadvertently they leave the box for the replacement light on the driveway for Ronnie to later discover.
Shadrach finally comes crawling back appealing to Lisa for forgiveness over his previous bad behaviour. Not ready to forget the deception over Zak’s letters, Lisa tells him he can stay in the shed but isn’t to come near the house.

Rodney is feeling lucky after his liaison with Juanita and the fair so, having decided not to buy back the problematic piece of land from Pollard, gambles the £5,000 on a winning horse at excellent odds.

Review
Laurel gets her chance to play wife to a drunken Ashley. Chris tries harder to make things work with Charity. Things hot up between Robert and Elaine at the Marsdens' party.

Laurel is a bag of nerves as she heads off to the speed dating event, dressed up to the nines in a bid to impress Ashley. The ‘date’ goes well but Laurel is disappointed when Ashley admits that he did not tick any matches on his card.

Afterwards, they decide to go along to the Marsden’s 70’s party and after a drink too many Laurel carries bleary-eyed Ashley back to the vicarage. As she settles him onto the sofa she whispers that she loves him, but her confession goes unheard because Ashley has already fallen asleep.

Determined to catch Charity out, Chris decides to play happy families by cooking her dinner. Later in the Woolpack, he reminds Charity that the school holidays are nearly over so Debbie can move back in, meaning that Charity won’t have to see Cain anymore. Horrified by the idea, Charity is torn between her daughter and her growing feelings for Cain.

Meanwhile, the villagers are all kitted out in their 70’s gear for the party and Robert is knocked out by Elaine’s outfit. The teenagers end up kissing but Elaine runs away, overcome with guilt about betraying Donna.

Treading on thin ice Friday 29.08.03
 
Edna corners Terry to give him an earful about squatters frequenting Pear Tree Cottage after hearing suspicious voices and noises coming from the empty neighbouring house during the past couple of weeks. Initially Terry thinks nothing of it, until he spots a flustered Charity heading towards the cottage. He starts to think that perhaps Charity is up to no good.

Meanwhile, determined to catch Charity out, Chris decides to play happy families by cooking her dinner. Later in the Woolpack, he reminds Charity that the school holidays are nearly over so Debbie can move back in, meaning that Charity won’t have to see Cain any more. Horrified by the idea, she’s torn between her daughter and her growing feelings for Cain.
