Review
Chris refuses to tell Charity about his illness, but his secrecy propels her into the arms of Cain. Scott's attempts to clear his name over the rape allegation backfire. Zoe pulls out all the stops to keep Jean to herself.

Debbie is determined to stir up emotions between Cain and Charity before going on holiday with Lisa. She questions why they’re insistent there’s no chemistry between them, admitting she saw them kiss. They are both shocked that Debbie saw their moment of passion. Charity scrambles to offer an explanation, insisting it meant nothing. Upset and frustrated Debbie leaves for Whitby with Lisa and Belle.

Meanwhile, Charity struggles to keep her growing desire for Cain a secret. When Chris refuses to pay her some attention and abandons her for a business trip to Leeds, she is unable to put her sexual desires on hold any longer. Charity reaches for her car keys and heads straight into Cain’s arms.

After the steamy encounter, Cain and Charity lie in bed and reflect on their situation. Their actions speak louder than words, as they rest safe in the knowledge that they don’t want to let go of what they’ve rediscovered.

Meanwhile at the hospital, Terry and Chris nervously await the scan results. Chris is unnerved by the whole experience, but still can’t take his mind off what Charity may be up to. As the doctor reveals the results, Chris tries to contain his emotion when he is told that the scan has shown a brain tumour. Terry is aghast as his friend is then taken straight in to theatre for a biopsy.

Elsewhere in the village, Zoe is desperate to stop Scott from seeing Jean and she goes to the police again – convinced that he will be charged now there are two allegations of rape against him.

Elsewhere in the village, having received a solicitor’s letter from Scott, Zoe is desperate to stop him from seeing Jean. She decides to go to the police convinced that he will be charged if there are two allegations of rape against him but they see through her claims that her memory has returned.

Review
As their affair intensifies, Charity has serious misgivings about Cain. Zoe is disturbed when a drunken Scott pleads his innocence. As Chris recovers in intensive care, Terry and Dawn find solace in each other.

It’s the morning after the night before and Charity can’t concentrate on her work. With Chris still in Leeds she finds herself continually thinking about Cain.

Charity goes to Cain with one thing on her mind, to continue where they left off

Meanwhile at the Dingles, Cain is equally distracted, and when he sees Charity tearing up the driveway, he puts his guard up expecting her to be angry about the night before. But when she kisses him, he knows her feelings are true and they end up in bed again.

Afterwards Cain ruins the ambience by making a jibe at Charity, telling her he won’t be able to afford her sexual favours for much longer. Deeply offended by the reference to her days as a prostitute, Charity is up, out of bed and down the stairs before he can apologise. Has he blown the relationship before it has begun?

Meanwhile, Chris lies unconscious in the hospital, with loyal Terry by his side. Only time will tell whether the doctors can save him or whether the tumour will prove to be fatal.

Zoe feels foolish attending rape counselling sessions for an attack she can’t even remember. Ashley comforts her telling her it might be a good idea to talk to Yolanda to see if it will jog her memory.

Seeing Zoe in the village, a drunken Scott is determined to protest his innocence and berates the Tate family for ruining his life. Zoe begins to wonder whether she has done him a great injustice and resolves to speak to Yolanda about her attack.

While Chris lies unconscious recovering from his brain tumour biopsy the doctor inform an anxious Terry that, although the operation itself was successful, the results won’t come through for a few days.

Back at the village Charity is so distracted by her steamy liaison with Cain that she nearly knocks pregnant Dawn over as she races through the village in her car. The incident visibly shakes up Charity, leaving Dawn with the impression that she must have found out about Chris being in hospital. When Dawn mentions it to Terry he gets a suspicious feeling over why Charity would be in such a hurry.

Having survived the journey to the Dingles Charity goes straight up to Cain’s room and strips down to her underwear! A stunned Cain can’t believe his luck, convinced that Charity’s visit was to pulverise the notion that she still has feelings for her ex.

But the passionate romp ends in tears when Cain’s remark about Charity’s days as a prostitute hits a raw nerve. As she storms out his bedroom in a rage, a half-dressed Cain follows shouting his apologies, much to Sam’s disbelief. However the words fall on deaf ears as Charity zooms off into the distance in her convertible.

Zoe’s still struggling to come to terms with the fact she may have been raped. After another upsetting encounter with a drunk Scott she resolves to speak to Yolanda, hoping it may jog her memory.

After the paying bikers decide to use another location for their racing, Katie suggests that she leaves school to become a full time cleaner to help make ends meet.

Elsewhere Sam fails his written driving test, despite Paddy and Emily’s pep talks.

Review
Zoe is shocked when she discovers the truth behind Scott's rape charge. Terry tries to convince a reluctant Chris to tell Charity about his illness. Despite her misgivings, Charity finds herself drawn to Cain again.

As Zoe arrives at the seedy lap dancing club where Yolanda works, she is determined to get some answers. She tentatively asks to speak to Yolanda and is pointed in the right direction. Although Yolanda initially refuses to talk, a few home truths are aired as Zoe tries to determine whether Scott is innocent. The dancer sticks to her guns but Zoe’s intuition tells her she is lying.

Zoe returns home dazed and deep in thought. She is sure that Scott is not a rapist and that there is something odd going on. Ashley is later horrified when she confesses her suspicions that Chris is behind the rape allegations placed by Yolanda.

Meanwhile at the hospital, Chris gradually comes round after the operation, he is glad to see Terry by his side, as they anxiously await the results of the biopsy. But despite Terry’s reasoning Chris is determined to keep the operation from Charity, at least until they’ve found out the results.

Elsewhere in the village, Cain and Charity sail close to the wind as they continue their affair at Home Farm. The possibility that Chris could arrive home any moment adds fuel to the fire, as they rip each other’s clothes off.

Little do they know Chris is laid up in hospital, anxiously awaiting the results that will determine his fate.

Despite Ashley’s kind words of warning, Zoe is adamant about visiting Yolanda to talk about her alleged rape, with the hope that it may trigger some memories of her encounter with Scott. But she’s shocked by Yolanda’s frosty attitude towards her and lack of emotion. After being virtually thrown out by the bouncers at the lap-dancing club Zoe is convinced that Yolanda is lying. She reluctantly faces up to the possibility that her own brother could hold a big enough grudge to be behind the lap-dancer’s claims.

Chris is not taking to being in a hospital bed very well, despite the luxury of private health care and faithful Terry by his bedside. Terry desperately tries to persuade Chris to tell Charity where he is, but to no avail. As far as Chris is concerned he wants his wife to stay with him because she wants, not because of a guilty conscience. However, as the day goes on, Chris starts to weaken to the idea of sharing the burden of his brain tumour. He tells Terry that he’s going to leave hospital the next morning and reveal the true nature of his trip, but only to Zoe.

Back at Home Farm Cain and Charity are taking advantage of an empty house. Having resolved their quarrel the previous day with a session on the Tate sofa, the lovers settle down to enjoy some wine. The party soon ends when Zoe arrives home and Cain is hastily urged out the back door.

Charity and cain share words of passion and anger

The married woman starts to realise that she’s playing a dangerous game after another close shave when Paddy spots them together in her car. She has to think on her feet to come up with an excuse why the feuding couple suddenly look so cosy.

Scott’s world is crashing down around him and with no new business he closes the garage indefinitely and heads off the Woolpack to drown his sorrows. With the village tongues wagging about his arrest it’s not long before the accusations fly. Syd jumps to his defence, however inconsolable Scott makes it clear that the friendship is over. Feeling alone in the world Scott rings his mum and, fighting back the tears, leaves a message on her voicemail telling her everything is fine back at home.

Elsewhere Jack arrives at Butler’s farm with a letter from Andy’s dad in prison. The young farmer throws the unopened letter straight on the fire saying he doesn’t want anything to do with his estranged father.

Review
Zoe does a deal with Scott to keep him out of jail and out of Jean's life. Forced to keep their distance, Charity and Cain discover how much they miss each other. Chris returns home to find himself alienated from his wife and sister.

Having been discharged from the hospital, Chris journeys home to tell Zoe about his ordeal. But before he can come clean, she bombards him with accusations that he framed Scott. Before Chris can confide in Zoe about his potential life threatening illness, she storms out, disgusted he could stoop so low. Left alone Chris bears the emotional burden of his illness.

When Charity arrives home it doesn’t take long before the turbulent couple are at odds again. Chris broods, not wanting admit to his wife that he could be dying.

Meanwhile, Zoe has fled to see Scott. She offers him his freedom back, by suggesting that she will tell the police she consented to sex, on the condition that he stays out of Jean’s life for good. Is this goodbye to fatherhood for Scott?

In his study, Chris tries his hardest not to breakdown. With no one to turn to, he reflects on his life and the people around him as he anxiously awaits the results of the biopsy, due the following day.

Elsewhere in the village, congratulations are in order when Katie opens her exam results and is delighted with her performance. And there is further good news for her and Andy when Katie announces that she has found a candidate to lease the stables to, which will bring them some much needed cash.

Chris leaves hospital, against doctor’s advice, and heads back to Home Farm to break the news to Zoe about his tumour however she has other important things to discuss with her brother. Jumping in first she demands to know whether he put Yolanda up to the rape claims. Distracted by his more pressing health issues Chris admits to paying for ‘natural justice.’ Outraged by her brother’s admission to framing Jean’s father for rape, Zoe storms out the house still unaware that Chris is seriously ill. It’s not long before Charity and Chris are also at each other’s throats, leaving Terry to support his ailing boss.

After confirmation of the set up Zoe re-visits Yolanda, paying her more Tate money to drop the charges against Scott.

Thursday 21 August 2003 at 7.00pm on ITV1 Network Zoe (LEAH BRACKNELL) blackmails Scott (BEN FREEMAN). Scott is saddened but has no other choice it would appear

Zoe then tells a bewildered Scott that she'll go to the police saying she consented to sex with him, if Scott agrees to stay out of Jean’s life forever. Left with the difficult choice between prison as an innocent man or losing all contact ’s blackmail.

Katie’s high grades in her G.C.S.E. results make Andy a very proud man. While picking the results up she also manages to secure a contract with a friend at school to use the stables for her horse, supplying a regular flow of much needed farm funds.

Elsewhere a dishy plumber turns up to fix the Woolpack dishwasher. Diane tries to encourage Louise to ask him out on a date but she isn't interested.

Review
Chris is told that he is dying. Cain and Charity's affair reaches dangerous new heights. A nervous Scott receives a call from the police over the rape allegations.

It’s judgement day for Chris, as he gathers his belonging together and prepares to spend another night in a hotel. Terry offers to accompany him to the hospital to find out the results of his tests.

Still at odds with her husband, clueless Charity makes it quite clear he can do whatever he wants after he tells her he has some more business to attend to in Leeds. But nothing can prepare Chris for the news he receives at the hospital when the doctor regretfully informs him his tumour is fatal. Realising that he only has a few months left to live, Chris’s world falls apart.

Terry is consumed with grief but feels relieved when his boss decides he is going to come clean and inform his family of his illness. But on arriving back at Home Farm, Charity is nowhere to be seen. Consumed with suspicion and grief, Chris keeps an unnerving hold on his emotions. It is clear he is thinking very carefully about his next move.

Meanwhile, unbeknown to the rest of the village, Charity and Cain play a dangerous game. Charity seductively invites Cain to join her in the Woolpack toilets. They are both wild with excitement at the thrill of the affair and the prospect of being caught.

While in the Woolpack Scott gets a call from the police that he's in the clar - Syd and Chloe look on

The sense of relief is intense for Scott when he takes a phone call telling him that Yolanda has dropped all charges, leaving him in the clear. Scott is glad that the ordeal is finally over but having been blackmailed by Zoe, he is also saddened by the prospect of never being involved in Jean’s life

Chris goes to hospital with Terry to pick up his biopsy results. The men are left speechless when the specialist informs Chris that his tumour is inoperable and the prognosis is fatal. Without treatment he has six to twelve weeks and with radiotherapy up to a year. He returns to Home Farm to an empty house and orders Terry to leave him alone.

With Chris away in Leeds again Charity arranges to meet Cain at empty Pear Tree cottage. Enjoying the dangerous element to the liaisons the lovers continue the affair despite the risk. Charity doesn’t expect to find her husband at home when she rolls in drunk and late, telling Chris that she’s been clubbing with Louise in Hotten.

Meanwhile Zoe is on her way to New York, having booked flights that day, unaware of her brother’s terminal illness. Having made the deal with Scott she feels it’s the right time to recuperate from all the stress of the past few months.

Scott celebrates the news that Yolanda has withdrawn her police statement. He admits to Syd his regret at being forced into signing away any contact with his daughter.

Louise has a disastrous date with the Woolpack plumber leaving her depressed about her non-existent love life. Over a drink in the pub Ashley also admits that he feels his life is lacking any excitement.

Syd offers Paul some work as a chippie.
