Episode 3503

Despite all the encouragement from Jarvis, Len still hasn’t managed to pluck up the courage to tell Edna how he feels about her. However, he is keen to make the right impression at the organised picnic later that afternoon.

True to form, Edna watches on disapprovingly as Pearl strips off in public to make the most of the sun during their day out. Rivalry ensues as the pair continue to bicker, while all the others try and enjoy their food. Fed up with Pearl’s scantily clad antics Edna feigns a migraine and makes her excuses to leave.

Len notices an opportunity to speak to Edna alone, but Pearl provides a constant distraction. Will Len follow her and confess his feelings or continue to frolic with Pearl?

Once again Donna feels neglected as Robert congratulates Elaine for passing her driving test. Although Ronnie is thrilled for his daughter, he is far from impressed with Robert when Elaine reveals she is going to buy his clapped out car. Convinced it’s a death trap, Ronnie gives Robert a piece of his mind, insisting she won’t be touching his pile of scrap.

Having had his fingers burnt by Steph, Rodney has thrown himself into his antiques business to keep busy leaving Danny worried about the number of hours he is putting in. Sick of seeing his boss moping around, Danny decides to take matters into his own hands and tries to cheer Rodney up. But his plan backfires when Rodney catches him red-handed and threatens to give him the sack!

The pensioners are keen to continue the summer frivolities at a picnic in the pavilion. After a complement from Len on her appearance, Pearl’s convinced that she’s the object of his desires.

Meanwhile Len finally admits to Jarvis that it’s Edna he really wants as a companion. Taking the initiative Jarvis decides to test the water during a little chat with Edna. It’s clear that she’s privately jealous of Pearl’s success with attracting Len's attention - food for thought for Len.

Edna feigns a headache, leaving the party early. Len takes the opportunity to follow her home to declare his feelings but it all goes horribly wrong when he gets stage fright and she presumes that he is just drunk.

Rodney has been throwing himself into his work ever since Steph left but his preoccupation with expanding the shop and increased profit margins has left Danny feeling deflated. When Danny finds his employers little black book of ex-girlfriends he hatches a plan to get Rodney hitched up as a distraction. However it backfires when Rodney catches him red handed.

Ronnie is determined not to let his daughter buy Robert’s car, so when the lad turns up at the Marsden’s looking for Elaine he insists on giving him a parental style grilling over a cup of tea. Elaine returns home with exciting news that she has passed her driving test, just after Ronnie has informed Robert that Elaine is not touching his car with a barge poll.

Turner has been given first refusal on the B&B by Carol, but feels it may be too much to take on at his age.

Episode 3504

Len wakes up feeling deflated, as his attempt at declaring his undying love for Edna hadn’t quite gone to plan. About to reveal all, his nerves got the better of him. Edna presumed he was drunk and turfed him out.

Determined not to give up, Jarvis and Len later discuss their contingency plan over a pint in the pub. However, nosy Betty has been earwigging and has got completely the wrong end of the stick, presuming Len must have fallen for Pearl. Encouraged by Jarvis, Len decides to give it a second go, but it all ends in disaster as Pearl has convinced herself she is the object of his affections and is all prepared to pucker up as Len makes his entrance!

Ronnie’s attempts to persuade Elaine not to buy Robert’s old banger fall on deaf ears. He is later furious when they are stitched up on the price, as Elaine has agreed to pay massively over the odds.

Steph fears that she may be out on her ear, when she hears the B&B is up for sale. With her nose out of joint, she tells Turner she is moving back to London. Shelly is upset by the news having recently struck up a great friendship with Rodney and is convinced there is some romance in store. Will Turner sell the B&B or does he have something up his sleeve that will mean they can all stay put?

ITV.COM Race for romance Tuesday 05.08.03 (copied here for archive purposes as it will be removed from their site after two weeks)

Having missed the opportunity to open his heart to Edna the previous day, a demoralised Len has been up all night trying to occupy his mind by building an old-fashioned racing cart. Deflated by the set back he resolves to spend the rest of his life alone. But Jarvis isn't standing for the apathetic attitude so challenges his friend to renew his youthfulness by partaking in a wagon race. Edna and Betty look on in amazement as the pensioners’ zoom through the village on their carts, crashing into a ford.

Revitalised by both the race and the concern expressed for his safety by Edna, Len discusses his next move with Jarvis in the Woolpack, unaware that Betty is in earshot. Word soon spreads that Len is in romantic pursuit of Pearl and when Len panics and plants a kiss on Pearl’s cheek Edna is far from impressed.

Steph is livid when she discovers the B&B is for sale and her dad has not told her. Later in the Woolpack Steph dramatically announces that she’s moving back to London with Shelley.

However she's forced to quickly backtrack when Turner informs them that he’s actually buying the B&B. As the celebratory champagne flows Steph is further annoyed to witness Rodney and Shelley getting cosy.

Frances senses that her daughter is keen on Robert, however teenager Elaine adamantly denies any notion of it. Ronnie does not share his wife’s enthusiasm for the young man so hopes that by presenting his daughter with a blank cheque to buy a car Elaine will be dissuaded from buying Robert’s. But Ronnie is forced to eat his words when the female contingent of the family force him to check the car out and he can’t fault it. He reluctantly hands over the dosh – even more than he bargained for!

Viv discovers that Donna has been dropped by the modelling agency and is dismayed by her daughter’s indifference to continuing her career, blurting out that it's not her personality that interests Robert.

Episode 3505

There is trouble at the B&B, even after Turner attempts to allay Steph and Shelly’s fears of being made homeless by telling them he is going to buy the business. Freeloading Steph and her sidekick still owe a huge amount of rent and Turner is getting to the end of his tether.

The strain of juggling work at the B&B and managing his ever demanding daughter is evidently too much for Turner as he takes a turn for the worst, leaving Steph and Shelly dumbfounded as they wonder who will look after all the guests.

As the ambulance speeds off, scheming Steph shows little concern for her father’s health and decides to check that Turner’s life assurance documents are all in order - she is horrified to discover she is not mentioned in his will.
Rodney is acting like the cat that got the cream after a passionate night with Shelly and not even Steph can ruin his mood. Her attempts to make a joke of their fling backfire, when Rodney publicly admits she was rubbish in bed!

Unlucky in love, Len is devastated by the state of his relationship with Edna and attempts to smooth things over. But his efforts go to waste when she tells him to save his chat-up lines for Pearl.

Elsewhere in the village, Pollard bumps into an old friend in the antiques’ trade. Aware of a bargain when he sees one Pollard agrees to buy some antique chairs from him, unaware that he is being scammed.

ITV.COM Romance for Rodney Wednesday 06.08.03 (copied here for archive purposes as it will be removed from their site after two weeks)

Shelley and Rodney both have a spring in their step today, having enjoyed a nightcap following their champagne celebration. Danny’s particularly pleased that his boss has finally got some distraction from work.

On the other hand Steph is not so supportive, accusing Shelley of accepting her cast offs.

Alan takes a turn for the worse after Steph refuses to help Shelley carry some hairdressing kit to Betty’s place. Alan is left to share the burden but has heart pains and is taken off in an ambulance.

Prematurely Steph sneaks a look at her dad’s paperwork while he’s in hospital, only to discover that she’s currently excluded from his will. Fuming about the fact that she won’t be gaining a penny from Alan’s demise Steph is on the warpath. And when Shelley shows more concern for Alan’s wellbeing than his own daughter, Steph accuses her of trying to muscle in on her life.

Len is still regretting the impromptu kiss, however recipient Pearl is full of the joys of spring with the expectance of romance.

Len is in the doghouse when he tries to explain his actions to Edna. He blows his chances by coming on a little strong for her liking.

Robert and Elaine are enjoying each other’s company, much to Donna’s dislike. It’s clear that Robert has much more in common with his friend than his girlfriend.
Pollard gets swindled over the purchase of some antique chairs, which don’t turn out to be the real thing.

Episode 3506

Steph points out to a recovering Turner that in times like these he should make sure that his will is in order. She is relieved when wearily he agrees and tells her he will re-evaluate his assets to make sure they go to those who rightfully deserve them should anything tragic happen.
With Turner on the mend, Steph feels relieved that she will receive what is rightfully hers. But when Turner reveals Tricia and Marlon will be the main benefactors and she will still be left nothing, Steph can’t believe her ears.

Pollard realises he has been duped by his collector friend, who has sold him some fake antiques. Not wanting to be taken for a fool, Pollard palms them off on an unsuspecting Rodney. Later, on closer inspection, Rodney is furious when he realises he has been conned.

Having lost her eternity ring, it is getting harder and harder for Viv to lie to Bob. Although the ring cost a bomb, Viv convinces herself that Bob would not notice if she replaced it with a cheaper copy.

Elsewhere in the village, times are still tough at the B&B. Although Steph refuses to swallow her pride, resourceful Shelly asks Pollard if there is any work going at the factory.

ITV.COM Turning point for Steph Thursday 07.08.03 (copied here for archive purposes as it will be removed from their site after two weeks)

Turner returns from hospital having been diagnosed with over exertion. After the bombshell that she has been cut out of her father’s will, Steph decides to put on the compassionate daughter act. Over a nice cup of tea Steph suggests that it would be sensible for Alan to get his affairs in order. But her plan backfires when Turner reconfirms that she’s not a beneficiary of his will and that everything is being left to Tricia. Having seen a large sum of money previously given to his daughter squandered, Alan still feels that Steph hasn’t learned the value of money. Steph furiously resolves to prove her father wrong, but not before directing a barrage of insults in his direction!

Rodney discovers that some of Mill Cottage’s land is situated on a historical site so hopes that he is literally sitting on a gold mine.

Meanwhile Pollard throws down the gauntlet by implying that his knowledge of antiques is superior than Rodney’s, resulting in a valuation competition that Rodney wins.
But it’s Pollard who has the last laugh after he manages to palm off his set of dodgy chairs on his friend, using the same scam that was pulled on him. Rodney vows to seek mighty revenge on Pollard for the unethical business deal.

Viv is getting frantic over finding her lost eternity ring before Bob cottons on. Deciding to take Donna’s suggestion on board she orders a much cheaper replacement from a catalogue.

Laurel’s excitement turns to disappointment when she only gets a runners-up prize for the competition she entered using Betty’s name.

Steph eats humble pie. Rodney plots revenge on Pollard. Viv wins a holiday at Laurel's expense.

Cast List includes :-
Lorraine Chase, Patrick Mower, Deena Payne

Episode 3507

Shelly manages to get a job working at Pollard’s factory. However, snobbish Steph turns her nose up at the menial status the job will entail.

Meanwhile at the B&B, Steph has managed to wrap Turner around her little finger once more, as he agrees to reduce her outstanding debt if she is actively seen to be looking for work. However, Turner is not the pushover Steph believes him to be. He has a trick up his sleeve, which will see Steph lowering her expectations and joining Shelly and the rest of working class at the factory. Having promised to look for work, Steph is forced to feign happiness when Pollard welcomes her on board.

Viv is delighted when her parcel with her new eternity ring arrives, until she opens it up and realises it looks nothing like the original Bob had bought her. But the blow is lightened and her disappointment turns to joy, when she opens what she thinks is junk mail and realises she has won a holiday. The fact that Laurel had entered the competition, and the advertising slogan that clinched the prize was written by Laurel, means nothing to Viv as she jumps for joy at the prospect of going on a dream cruise!

Rodney is still bitter from the cruel trick Pollard that played on him when he was palmed offf with some fake antiques. Determined not to be out done, he hatches a plan to get his own back. Keen not to be caught out, Rodney sets a trap that he is sure Pollard will fall for. He cunningly recruits Jarvis as a plant.

Later at the Woolpack, Jarvis happens to mention to Pollard that the land surrounding Rodney’s house is a potential gold mine due to its historical value - the seed is sown, as Pollard is very keen to find out more.

Elsewhere in the village, Laurel waits with bated breath to see if she has won the competition for her dream holiday. Little does she know Viv has scooped her prize and the chances of her leaving the country are extremely slim.

ITV.COM Surprise prise Friday 08.08.03 (copied here for archive purposes as it will be removed from their site after two weeks)

Laurel’s on tenterhooks as the competition replies arrive on people’s doorsteps. Having used the villager’s names in the hope of winning a luxury cruise Laurel’s sure luck is just around the corner.

Little does she know that Viv has actually won first prize, and has no intention of letting on or handing it over to Laurel. Along with the winner’s letter comes Viv’s replacement eternity ring, which looks nothing like the lost original.

Steph gets more than she bargains for after promising her dad that she’s willing to do any job that crops up. So when Alan points out that there’s a job going at Pollard’s factory Steph has no alternative but to accept. The only positive factor for Steph is that she will have best mate Shelley as company.

Pollard is feeling victorious over Rodney, having ripped him off with the dodgy antique chairs. But when Pollard is asked to value some mysterious old coins that have been found on Mill Cottage land above the historical site, it seems the seed of revenge may have been sown.

Ollie is secretly excited over Danny arranging her a surprise 18th birthday party, however her mixed signals over celebrating the birthday leave Danny confused over what she wants.
