Review
Charity is horrified by Chris' maliciousness when she realises that he is serious about his threat to make her penniless. Gold-digging Steph is intrigued by Rodney's latest plans to make a fortune. Ashley seeks volunteers for the talent night and finds a willing helper in Laurel.

Charity

It’s the morning after the night before and homeless Charity wakes up next to Cain in a hotel bedroom. Her heart sinks as she realises her predicament and worries Chris will never take her back now.

To further the blow Charity is shocked when her credit cards are refused as she tries to settle their hefty hotel bill. Embarrassed she is forced to leave her designer watch as security. A later call to the bank reveals Chris has spent up to the limits on all of her cards, leaving her practically penniless.

But Charity is just beginning to discover the wrath of Chris, as she tears round to Home Farm in a fury to discover Chris has not only filed for divorce but is rapidly spending all their wealth by splashing out on a helicopter and a Porsche!

Monday 15 September 2003 at 7.00pm on ITV1 Network Charity (EMMA ATKINS) discovers that Chris has cleared her bank account.

Furious, and unable to control her anger, she lunges at Chris. In horror, the Tate solicitor calls the police, who are forced to restrain her. Later the police ask Chris if he would like to make a complaint against Charity, but he refuses. Left homeless and penniless, Charity is forced to swallow her pride and begs Chloe to let her stay for the night. Chloe reluctantly agrees.

Steph thinks Rodney is up to something when his car mysteriously disappears. He later discloses that he has sold the vehicle but is secretive about the reason. Bemused, Steph tells Shelly to sleep with Rodney again to find out what is going on. Later Steph offers to help Pollard out with a business lunch he is arranging for a client, but claims she has got nothing to wear. Pollard forks out for a new dress but she secretly pockets the cash. Diane announces that Rodney has bought a mansion called The Mill.

Review
Chris vows to get even as his illness humiliates him further. Steph encourages Pollard to thwart Rodney in his money-making schemes. Elaine feels pressured by an eager Robert, who is keen to take their relationship to another level.

Debbie and Charity share a tender moment

The strain of recent events is taking its toll on Charity and she can’t help but take things out on Chloe. After an argument, Charity admits to Debbie she needs all the friends she can get in her hour of need, wondering where they’ll end up.

EMMERDALE Monday 15 September 2003 at 7.00pm on ITV1 Network Debbie (CHARLEY WEBB) comforts Charity (EMMA ATKINS) as she hits rock bottom.

Later, feisty Charity makes her way to Home Farm to try and make Chris see reason. But her pleas fall on deaf ears as Chris turfs Charity out giving her only her car keys and a few suitcases of clothes. Chris relishes the power he has over his estranged wife, as he calls the police to report her violent tendencies once again.

Determined not to be intimidated by Cain in the Woolpack, Chris hits back with an underhand comment about Debbie going on the game. This is the final straw for Cain as he launches himself at Chris, threatening to kill him.

Rodney is being cagey about his plans to buy the mansion and Steph smells a rat. Determined to get a piece of the action she sides with Pollard to try and get in on the deal.

Robert has got a taste for the bachelor life and is determined not to give it up. Not content with just having Donna as a girlfriend, he is in hot pursuit of Elaine. Will he get his wicked way, or will the females of the village cotton on to his promiscuous charms?

Review
As Charity struggles to come to terms with her new lowly status Chris is overwhelmed by his hatred for her. Steph joins forces with Pollard in order to dupe Rodney. A frustrated Robert finds that he cannot resist Donna's advances.

Charity is delighted when Chris invites her around to Home Farm the following evening to talk. She excitedly confides in Debbie that it is no longer about the money and she really does love Chris, despite her actions.

Meanwhile, Cain’s blood is boiling and he makes Debbie promise to tell him if Charity is going to meet Chris, threatening to kill them both if she does. But will Debbie be able to keep her mouth shut, or will she tell Cain about her mother’s secret meeting with her ex-husband?

However, at Home Farm with revenge in mind Chris prepares for his meeting with Charity. He puts on latex gloves and takes a small bag from the safe. He puts some poisonous white powder from the bag into a champagne glass, then discreetly gets rid of all the evidence…

EMMERDALE Tuesday 16 September 2003 at 7.00pm on ITV1 Network Chris (PETER AMORY) puts the poison into an empty wine glass.

Donna tells Katie she’s better off without ex-boyfriend Robert, but she later can’t resist his charm after visiting him to get some of her belongings back. One thing leads to another and Donna is right back where she started – in Robert’s womanising arms. Will she finally get the message that Robert is merely using her or continue to be blind to his infamous ways?

Tuesday 16 September 2003 at 7.00pm on ITV1 Network Donna (VERITY RUTHWORTH) is furious to be 'used' by Robert (KARL DAVIES).

Steph is keen to muscle in on Rodney’s moneymaking scam. She convinces Pollard to try and buy him out and give her 10% of the profit! Will Rodney uncover their deception, or will he have his potential to make a million whipped from under his feet?

Chris pays Ashley a visit, concerned over how Zoe will respond to his death. As the dying man breaks down in tears, Ashley promises to take care of Zoe in his absence.

Bumping into Charity in the village Chris invites her up to Home Farm the following evening under the guise of putting things between them on a more amicable footing.

Later Chris pours some poisonous looking substance into a champagne glass and locks it in his safe.
Discovering that Rodney is in financial dire straits if Pollard does not get the planning permission passed quickly Steph spots an opportunity to profit from his predicament.
Steph has been doing her homework, digging for information on Rodneyís property investment. Discovering that Rodney is in financial dire straits if Pollard does not get the planning permission passed quickly Steph spots an opportunity to profit from his predicament. Pollard is more than happy with the plan to stitch Rodney up by delaying his part of the bargain until heís desperate to sell on to Eric. Cunning Steph divulges the inside information after striking a rewarding deal to gain a percentage of Pollards profits if the plan reaches fruition.
After Robert and Donna  have sex the love cheat makes it clear that the relationship is still finished, leaving Donna frustrated.
Donna engineers a liaison with ex-boyfriend Robert by asking to come round to collect her CDís. Dressed to impress Donna ends up back in bed with Robert, who canít resist her physical charms. After they have sex the love cheat makes it clear that the relationship is still finished, leaving Donna frustrated.

Cain is full of madness and hatred and after hitting the bottle hard he threatens to kill not just Chris but also Charity if she tries to go back to her husband.

The Woolpack sees the dress rehearsal for the talent competition, with Laurel in her element organising the troops while Ashley and Louise find the whole thing utterly hilarious.

Murder is in the air when Chris invites Charity to Home Farm for a deadly head-to-head, unaware that an enraged Cain is beating a brutal path to their door.

Review
Nothing much happens in the tranquil and beautiful Yorkshire Dales, you might think. But of course it's a cauldron of overheated sexuality, jealousy and murder - at least in the village of Emmerdale.

Tonight is the culmination of a story that has been building for months, involving Chris Tate, his tarty wife Charity and her filthy (in every possible sense) love Cain Dingle. Chris has some nasty plans up his sleeve and tonight, Home Farm is set to be the scene of a terrible tragedy.

Charity's problems are just beginning

Chris admits to Zoe that he’s scared of dying and she assures him that she will be there for him the entire time and promises to protect Joseph’s birthright after he dies. She later decides to spend the evening at the Woolpack, assured by Chris that he would like to spend the evening alone.

Debbie gives Charity all the money from her savings account so that she can get her hair done to impress Chris. Debbie lies to Cain that Charity is going to the pictures with Emily.

Wednesday 17 September 2003 at 7.00pm on ITV1 Network Pictured: Charity (EMMA ATKINS) pleads with Chris (PETER AMORY) to save their marriage unaware of what awaits her ...........

Cain forces the truth out of her and is incensed to hear that Charity is going to beg Chris to take her back. He tells Debbie that he would rather see Charity dead than back in bed with Chris.

Meanwhile, Terry finishes work for the day leaving Chris alone at Home Farm. Chris takes the poisoned glass out of the safe and opens a bottle of champagne ready for Charity’s arrival…

Possessed, Cain drives furiously towards Home Farm clutching a kitchen knife, having told Marlon and Debbie that he is going to kill Chris and Charity. Terrified, Debbie chases after his car. Will he carry out his threat against them both?

Tearfully, Chris asks Zoe to take care of Joseph after his demise.
The day begins on an emotional note for Chris, having visited Joseph at boarding school in the knowledge that it may be the last time he sees his son before his death. Tearfully, Chris asks Zoe to take care of Joseph after his demise. Reasserting his overwhelming hatred for Charity he says that heíd rather see the bitch dead than get one penny from him.

Charity, on the other hand, has high hopes regarding the pending liaison with Chris, even borrowing money from Debbie for the hairdressers in a bid to impress.
When Charity arrives dressed up to the nines Chris is unimpressed with her efforts.
Having witnessed Chrisís state of mind, both Terry and Zoe offer to keep him company in the evening, however Chris insists they go to talent night at the Woolpack. However before sending his right-hand-man away Chris thanks him for all his support over the past weeks.

When Charity arrives dressed up to the nines Chris is unimpressed with her efforts. Inviting her in to finalise the details of their break-up he offers Charity a glass of champagne for old times sake.
back at the Dingles, Cain’s infuriated by the news that Charity is planning to win back Chris’s affections.
Meanwhile, back at the Dingles, Cainís infuriated by the news that Charity is planning to win back Chrisís affections. Having bullied Debbie into revealing her motherís whereabouts he sets off in the direction of Home Farm in a rage. Bursting into the house a fight soon erupts between him and Charity. Chris frightens the intruder away by lying about the police being called. The Dingle isnít giving up that easy however as he collects a knife from home and drives straight back up to Home Farm threatening to kill both Charity and Chris.
Chris offers a toast to the death of their marriage. Having downed the champagne, along with the poisonous substance, Chris collapses on the floor with blood pouring from his mouth
Alone, Chris admits that he loved Charity to distraction when they first met, but must have been insane, as all he feels now is pure hatred. Sending Charity out the room to fetch his cheque book Chris surreptitiously switches his champagne glass with another filled with poison and calls the police to report that his wife has broken in and is threatening him.

With both glasses re-filled Chris offers a toast to the death of their marriage. Having downed the champagne, along with the poisonous substance, Chris collapses on the floor with blood pouring from his mouth while Charity watches in horror.
When Cain returns he finds Charity crying hysterically over Chrisís limp body. Hearing sirens outside Cain grabs some valuables and leaves an inconsolable Charity to be taken away by the police.

Review
Mystery surrounds prime suspect Cain's disappearance as the aftershock of events at Home Farm reverberate around the village, and word spreads that the police are conducting a murder enquiry.

Oblivious to the tragic events at Home Farm, the talent contest is underway in the Woolpack. Eddie and Bob don their costumes, complete with fake moustaches, leotards and nipple tassels. Sam’s abysmal bird impression performance is cut short and Ashley announces Eddie and Bob’s act. Eddie locks Bob inside the trunk and tells jokes while frantically Bob tries to escape.

The vibrant mood is suddenly interrupted as the police enter the Woolpack and head towards Zoe, asking her to go outside. Terry follows her. Zoe is devastated by the news and Ashley takes her back to the Vicarage. Dawn comforts Terry who is in tears as the realisation sets in.

Thursday 18 September 2003 at 7.00pm on ITV1 Network Ashley (JOHN MIDDLETON) tries to comfort a distraught Zoe (LEAH BRACKNELL).

The police question Zoe, who is in deep shock. She can’t make sense of what has happened and wonders what Charity and Chris were doing together in the first place. Desperate, she wants to go to Home Farm but the police stop her.

Meanwhile, more police inspect the scene at Home Farm, suspicions raised. They take Charity’s clothes away for forensic testing.

Elsewhere in the village, everyone in the Woolpack discusses the events, horrified by what has happened.

As the police forensic team arrives at Home Farm to investigate Chris Tateís suspicious death a distraught Charity tries to describe the events leading up to her husbandís dramatic and unexpected death. Asked to describe Chrisís state of mind prior to his death Charity recalls his weird mood swings from anger to the calmness when he said that killing her would be too easy.

Meanwhile, oblivious to the tragic events down the road, the villagers gather in the Woolpack to enjoy the talent night. The escapologists are left with the hard task of warming up the audience following Sam Dingleís birds of Britain impression. But the police arriving for Zoe divert attentions away from Bobís attempts to free his chained body from a trunk.

As news spreads the villagers' reflet on Chrisís life, but struggle to find a favourable epilogue, particularly Scott who celebrates his enemyís demise.
Zioe and Jean - Zoe is shocked when it becomes apparent that the police are unaware of Chris’s illness and in fact are investigating the possibility of foul play.
Back at Ashleyís place, the police question Zoe about the last time she saw her brother. Zoe reveals how Chris was particularly concerned about the future of Joseph after his death from the inoperable tumour. Zoe is shocked when it becomes apparent that the police are unaware of Chrisís illness and in fact are investigating the possibility of foul play.

Charity is escorted to the police station for further questioning and forensic testing. The evidence soon piles up against her focusing on the marriage break-up, broken china in the hallway indicating a row and her ignorance about Chrisís terminal illness. With a clear motive and the opportunity to kill it seems that Chris may have left a lasting legacy to his unfaithful wife.

As Zoe tries to come to terms with events at Home Farm, she realises her life will never be the same again. As the police investigation intensifies, gossip in the village is rife as various conspiracy theories are posited. Eddie's money worries begin to escalate once more.

Debbie (CHARLEY WEBB) is still on the run as police investigations intensify.

As the dust settles in the village, everyone continues to be shocked by the events at Home Farm. Gossip spreads like wildfire as everyone makes their own assumptions on the death and possible motives.

Meanwhile, the police determine that there is sufficient evidence for a murder enquiry. Gossip Betty tells the police about Charity’s relationship with Cain and they decide to call him in – but along with Debbie he is nowhere to seen. The police begin a manhunt…

Debbie

Zoe is devastated when the police tell her that she cannot go up to Home Farm until they have finished their inquiries. Her suspicions are raised. She discusses making arrangements to tell Joseph about his father with Ashley, and wonders how she is going to find the words.

It’s Charity’s name that keeps cropping up as the person with a motive.
As the rumour mill gets going in the village residents freely gossip about the criminal investigation into Chrisís death. Itís Charityís name that keeps cropping up as the person with a motive.

Having determined that there is enough evidence for a murder inquiry the police search for further clues by talking to the locals. Betty is quick to spill the beans about Charity and Cainís recent illicit affair including the subsequent confrontations in the Woolpack.
Pugh and Keysell - investigating the murder
The inspector in charge is determined to find out the truth rather than collar a likely candidate on a whim such as Cain Dingle, who has a previous criminal record.

However when they go to question Cain at the Dingles heís nowhere to be seen. Marlon covers for Cain but hasn't actually got a clue where he's gone, along with Debbie. Meanwhile the police launch a manhunt.
Zoe
The police are not ruling out the possibility of suicide though, which appals Zoe who is adamant that her brother would not have thrown in the towel so easily.

Having been informed by the police that she cannot go up to Home Farm, the pressure mounts for Zoe as she makes plans to visit Joseph at school to tell the little boy about his dad.
