Emily is suspicious after learning that Paddy asked Marlon to help Viv assemble the tables. She confronts the chef ands asks him why he went and not Paddy. But he’s such a bad liar Emily is more convinced than ever that something is amiss between her husband and her boss.

When Paddy comes down to breakfast she asks him if he’s avoiding Mrs Hope. Unlike Marlon, Paddy is much cooler and replies: ‘Not more than anybody else does, unless I need something from the shop.’ Great answer!

She then goes to see Viv and asks her the same question. But the shopkeeper tells her she’s never heard anything more daft and although she admits she cried when they had dinner together, she tells Emily that it had nothing to do with Paddy.

But shrewd Emily is not convinced and seeks the advice of Paul. She tells him that she thinks they’ve had a big argument, but she’s not sure what about, but it was so huge that they can’t bear to be in the same room together. ‘There’s a simple way of sorting that,’ he tells her… more of that later.

Val and Pollard are still trying to think up ways to sale the paintings from the library. Since she had so much success with the watches a couple of months ago, Val decides to go and see Rodney…

But he’s not interested in anything Pollard has to sell, which leaves Eric and Val back to square one. Until… Pollard decides the best way to make a quick buck would be to burn the lot and claim them on insurance. Val goes one better and says they shouldn’t burn the originals, but rather some pieces of flat wood so that they can still sell the paintings and earn even more money!

Elsewhere, Tom calls Sadie and Jimmy for a meeting where he tells them he’s buying their shares so they have nothing left to do with the company. Jimmy seems to take it reasonably well (has he got something up his sleeve?), but Sadie takes the documents and runs out the office in tears.

Under Paul’s instructions, Emily has conned Viv and Paddy by getting them to go round to hers. When they arrive they are shocked to see each other as Emily insists they tell her what’s going on between the two of them.

Paddy explains to his wife that he lied about going to the pub with Marlon the other evening and told her that Viv had called him up as she was upset, again! He goes on to explain that the pair ended up trading insults and haven’t spoken since.

They both apologise to each other and Emily makes them shake hands. Thinking the whole sorry mess is over, Emily leaves them to it. But is it really the end, or just the beginning?
