Carl (Tom Lister) tells Chas (Lucy Pargeter) that Chloe (Amy Nuttall) is responsible for the pen letters and she goes round to confront her.
As Chas has it out with Chloe she spots several pregnancy test kits and guesses that Chloe has been lying about being an expectant mother. She forces her to do a test but Chloe does a runner.
A crowd congregates as Chas catches up with Chloe and demands that she admit that she isn’t really pregnant. Chas and Chloe come to blows and Chas proceeds to dunk Chloe’s head in a horse’s trough, threatening to drown her until she is admits the truth. Carl is dumbstruck as he learns that he has been taken for a fool and Chloe is forced to leave the village in disgrace.

After her night in the B&B Chloe goes to see Carl. He’s not interested in what she has to say though and tells her to pack up all her things. ‘I want you out of here for good today and then I don’t want your lying face around here again.’ She replies: ‘What about our baby, don’t you want to see that?’ He tells her, ‘Not at the moment, no.'
Carl goes to see Chas and tells her he and Chloe have split up. ‘Well the drinks are on me,’ the barmaid says and starts to clap. But then he tells her about the letters and unsurprisingly she is fuming and ends up slapping him for not believing her in the first place. ‘I told you over and over and then you get the lying scheming cow pregnant!’
‘Do you not think I know all this? Do you not think I don’t know what she’s done and what I’ve lost?’ At that Chas makes to leave to go have a fight with Chloe, but Carl stops her and tells her she can’t because she’s carrying his baby.
Meanwhile, Tom and Matthew arrive in the pub to sort out a 'damage limitation' plan given that Chloe knows a lot about the Kings and their business. With Carl tied up Chas spots her chance, grabs her coat and goes after Chloe! Fight! Fight!
She finds Chloe packing and tells her what a ‘bitch’ she is. Chloe replies, ‘Well I’ve got a baby now, I’m family and that’s something that you’ll never be. Face it Chas, I’ve won.’ But then Chas spots all the gazillion pregnancy tests and realises that Chloe must have been lying about being pregnant too.
She throws her in the toilet and makes her do another test ‘Just pee on the stick, bitch’. Quote of the day there! But instead of doing the test she escapes out the bathroom window! Chas, of course, chases after her and is ready to spill some blood.
Back in the pub and Matthew suggests that they pay Chloe off with a lump sum to keep her quiet. Carl hates his life being dictated and equally doesn’t want Chas to kill Chloe so he gets up and leaves. 'Why don't you plan out my life for the next 20 years and get back to me,' he complains on his way out.
Matthew and Tom chase after him and the three start arguing in the street as Chloe hides behind a car. But when Chas spots her she goes up to Carl and tells her to protect him from the furious barmaid. She goes to grab Chloe, but Carl stops her and reminds her that Chloe’s pregnant. ‘Pregnant?’ shouts Chas, ’She’s no more pregnant that your dad is.’
Chas grabs Chloe and dunks her head in the horse’s trough. Holding her under she eventually brings her back up and tells her to admit to everyone (for the whole village has assembled to watch the scene) the truth. Chloe stays quiet so Chas dunks her head in again! ‘Next time, I won’t be bringing it back up,’ she warns her.
It’s enough of a warning for Chloe who shouts out 'I’m not pregnant!’ Gasps follow before Tom shouts at her for treating Carl so badly. The man himself is in shock (but secretly he must be jumping up and down inside!). Chloe though is unrepentant and tells them all she’d do it all again, ‘It were worth it just to see you go mad over those letters,’ she tells Chas. ‘And when I did get back into Carl’s bed, it was the best.'
Chas promptly punches the cow just as the police and a taxi arrive. Tom, supported by the King clan, pushes Chloe into the cab and tells her he never wants to see or hear from her ever again. She shouts out, ‘Losers!’ before having the door shut in her face as the taxi drives out of Emmerdale and Chas is taken to the police station by Denzel. Phew, what an episode!
