The 4000th episode - The final showdown between Steph and Shelly takes an unexpected turn

Quote of episode, Chas to Carl: "...You have the house, a dog .... and a Fen."

Steph (Lorraine Chase) goes to Arran in search of Shelly (Carolyn Pickles), while Turner (Richard Thorp) desperately waits for news on whether it will be his daughter or girlfriend who will be returning.
Later in Arran, Steph follows Shelly onto a ferry and they come face to face on the top deck. Shelly is petrified when she sees Steph, but is determined that for once she must stand up to her bully.
There is a scuffle between the two of them and someone loses their footing before falling overboard into the ice-cold sea below, pulled beneath the waves and out of sight.
Meanwhile, Chas (Lucy Pargeter) and Carl (Tom Lister) have a heart to heart, but are interrupted when Chloe (Amy Nuttall) returns home. Chas is forced to hide behind the sofa and is close to tears as she listens to Chloe declare her love for Carl before they head upstairs together.
Over in the Woolpack, Louise (Emily Symons) and Diane (Elizabeth Estensen) are furious when Bob (Tony Audenshaw) gives the Dingles free drinks for dressing up as Leprechauns on St Patrick’s day. They get revenge by making him wear Shadrach’s (Andy Devine) outfit, leaving the Dingle in his vest and long johns!

[Editor's Note: Shelly chose to stand up to Steph telling Steph that Alan would never love her as much as he loved Shelly and Steph's Tricia. Steph struggled to keep calm muttering to herself "I will not get angry" over and over. Steph then turned to Shelly and said "you are coming back to Emmerdale with me" and grabbed Shelly's arm. Shelly was frightened and jumped back, slipped and went overboard.

Steph was momentarily shocked by the accident, but with Shelly screaming in the water below, Steph looked at a rubber ring and then to Shelly's suitcase. Steph chose to throw Shelly's case overboard and made no effort to help Shelly or alert th authorities. Steph then went to the bar for a drink.]

Shelly has arrived in Scotland, but it turns out her friend is not at home so she stays in a hotel. She fiddles with her mobile phone and it is clear that she wants to give Turner a call to find out how he’s doing. She then decides to head back to the mainland… just as we see Steph arrive on the island - anyone would think she was Kate Winslet on the Titanic!
It’s not until Shelley is downstairs in the bar waiting for the ferry later that day that she spots Steph. She winces with horror and tries to slink away without being spotted. She grabs her bag and heads to the ferry, boarding early in the hope that Steph won’t find her there.
Steph, meanwhile, has been checking all the hotels on the island trying to find Shelly, but is having no luck. She calls Turner, but he’s gone for a walk and Betty answers. She tells her that she’s looked all over for Shelly but can’t find her and is coming home. But Betty tells her how disappointed Turner will be and urges her to keep on looking.
Steph happens upon the hotel that Shelly was staying in and finds out from the receptionist where she was heading. Cue the ferry…
Back in Emmerdale, for Scotland is not the only setting for this hour-long special, and Bob is preparing the pub for St Patrick’s Day celebrations. He has put up a banner announcing free drinks… for Leprechauns! Because, he explains, leprechauns do not exist, there will be no free drinks. That’s until Shadrach spots the banner and he dashes home…
Rounding up the troops he tells the Dingles about the free drinks and Zak tells Lisa to get her ‘kit out’! Lisa looks horrified, until Shadrach tells her, ‘your sewing kit’! Before we know it, Lisa has produced leprechaun suits for Shadrach, Zak, Chas and herself. Just as they’re about to leaved for the pub, Denzel turns up and Lisa offers to make him a suit while the other three head to the pub.
On the way there, though, Chas falls down and breaks the heel on her shoe. Carl emerges as her knight in shining armour, or rather a suit in this case, and takes her back to his place for some superglue.
But while there the two get stuck into some beers and end up having a heart-to-heart… but then Chloe returns! Carl begs Chas to hide, so she is then forced to listen on as Chloe tells Carl how much she loves him and how she wants to take him to bed. Carl has no choice but to go to bed with her leaving poor Chas close to tears.
Back at the pub and the Dingles are enjoying their free drinks (Bob realises he messed up!) while Libby has finally got Andy to agree to go for a drink with her. After a couple though she tells him they should ‘go somewhere quieter’. ‘That sounds a bit suggestive,’ Andy tells her. ‘It’s not suggestive,’ she replies, ‘it’s an order’. Ooer! As they head outside they pass Katie and Robert coming in, Andy’s ex-wife can’t help but look back after them… does she still have feelings for Andy?
Outside Andy and Libby are enjoying their first snog as Chas sits down on the pub bench. Andy asks her if she’s ok, but she simply replies: ‘Yeah, everything’s great, Andy,’ in a tone that indicates everything is far from brill in Chas' life at the moment. Nevertheless, she goes into the pub and tells Denzel she’s been with Carl. She tells him not to be jealous, though, and leans in for a kiss from the copper.
Back to the ferry (because that’s what you really want to read about isn’t it?!) and Steph boards. It’s only a matter of time that the two will bump into each other and, surely enough, it happens. Shelly panics and tells a worker on the boat that Steph is harassing her, but the psycho turns round and tells the guy that the two are best friends! The worker asks to see Steph’s ticket, but she hasn’t got one so he asks her to leave the boat… but does she?
Fat chance! Shelly knocks back a couple of whiskies thinking her ordeal is over and heads up to the top deck with her suitcase. Little does she know that Steph is still on board and recoils in horror when she psycho taps her on the shoulder and says, 'Surprise!'

Please note ITV's visual updater did not ocmplete the whole episode and it ended at this point. However this was just half way through the episode. If a member of this website has time at some future poiont we will add more. However you have all the important information in the official synopsis at the top and with the editor's note.
