Pollard and Val become thick as thieves
ITV1 Network
7:00 PM to 7:30 PM
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ashley (John Middleton) and Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy) receive devastating
news when the bishop (Peter Cartwright) informs them that he’s
decided he cannot allow them to marry. Ashley refuses to accept the
situation and makes matters worse by flippantly suggesting that he
believes Ethan (Liam O’Brien) was sent by the church to keep
an eye on him. How will the Bishop respond to Ashley’s unexpected
outburst?

Meanwhile, Val (Charlie Hardwick) and Pollard (Chris Chittell) are
as thick as thieves as they excitedly realise that they are going to
make a fortune from auctioning off the widow’s goods. They show
no remorse for deceiving the unsuspecting lady and the pair agree that
they make a winning team.
Elsewhere, Charity tries (Emma Atkins) to splash her cash on Debbie
(Charley Webb) in order to get her on side. Cain (Jeff Hordley) interrupts
and is horrified when Charity announces that she plans to leave Emmerdale
and take Debbie with her. Will Cain let his daughter leave without
a fight?

Confident that she’s going to get the rest
of the money from Jimmy, Charity hands a wad of cash over to Chas,
for helping her by hiding the copy of the tape.
|
|
Meanwhile, Jimmy is calling the bank to sort the rest of the
money. Sadie doesn’t seem to notice as she’s too busy
thinking about throwing a party for Jimmy’s 40th birthday – that’s
if there’s enough money left, Sadie! |
|
Money isn’t such a problem for Pollard, though, who has
given himself 10 per cent commission on the sale of the widow’s
antiques. Now that’s just wrong, Eric. |
|
Meanwhile, the Bishop arrives with his decision for Ashley, but
it’s not good… |
|
He tells Ashley that he has a poor history with women and with
making bad choices. He uses Louise as the example, referring to
her as the barmaid. He believes Ashley lost his way after Louise
and admits to Ashley that he sent Ethan to the village to ‘spy’ on
the vicar. |
|
He tells Ashley that he thought he’d lost his enthusiasm
for the job and thought that teaching a curate would reinvigorate
him. But it seems Ethan was also reporting back to the village
on Ashley’s state of affairs too. |
|
Ashley asks the Bishop what would happen if he and Laurel decided
to get married anyway. But the Bishop replies that he would have
to leave the Church, and Emmerdale. He tells Ashley that he needs
to wait longer and instead concentrate on his parishioners for
a change. |
|
Ethan walks in just as the Bishop is leaving. Ashley confronts
him and congratulates him on saving him from an ill-advised marriage, ‘go
to the top of the class’, he tells the curate before storming
off to find Laurel. |
|
He finds her in the pub and breaks the news to her. She asks
him what they’ll do now and seeks reassurance that they are
still together. Ashley tells her that of course they are and that
she has the engagement ring to prove it. |
|
She tells him that she’s never been happier than in these
past few months, but Ashley is obviously concerned that they’ll
never be able to marry. |
