Sadie returns to the village
ITV1 Network
7:00 PM to 7:30 PM
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jimmy (Nick Miles) gives Charity (Emma Atkins) the first instalment
of money but she is unimpressed not to receive the full amount. Jimmy
insists he has cleared out his savings account but Charity is in no
mood for excuses.

Sadie (Patsy Kensit) returns from her travels, which only makes matters
worse for Jimmy. Charity later bumps into her rival and takes delight
in making it clear that she is only hanging around in the village until
Sadie gets the comeuppance that she deserves.
Meanwhile, Pollard (Chris Chittell) goes to a jumble sale and meets
up with Glynis (Christine Cox). Diane (Elizabeth Estensen) winds Val
(Charlie Hardwick) up by telling her how Glynis played a part in the
breakdown of Pollard’s marriage and warns her that if she and
Pollard are more than ‘just good friends’ she may have
serious competition.
Elsewhere, the bishop (Peter Cartwright) makes his disapproval known
to Ashley (John Middleton) but the vicar tries to remain optimistic
and convinces a worried Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy) that they will marry
regardless. Can he persuade the bishop to consent to the wedding?

Jimmy and Charity cross paths and after some winding
up he tells her that she’ll be getting her money soon, but
she’s not happy with his attitude and reminds him that he’s
the one with everything to lose. |
|
Things don’t get any better for Jimmy when Sadie walks
through the door having returned from France. Jimmy gets up and
gives her a kiss and she proceeds to ask him and the other Kings
what they’ve been up to since she’s been a way. Really
Sadie, you wouldn’t want to know! |
|
Jimmy later meets Charity and gives her some of the money as
he was unable to get the full amount. She tells him that's rubbish
and makes him get the rest of the cash straight away. |
|
As she walks away she runs into Sadie, who asks her why she’s
still in Emmerdale, ‘Why can’t you just admit defeat
and move on?’ She asks Charity, who replies: ‘Because
I promised I’d bring you down first, didn’t I?’ For
once Sadie looks a bit worried! |
|
Meanwhile, Glynis makes Pollard take her for a drink in the Wooplack.
Val is there too and doesn’t think much of it, until Diane
tells her that Glynis played a part in the breakdown of Pollard’s
marriage and says that if she and Pollard are ‘more than
just friends’, then Val should be worried right now. And
she is… |
|
Love is also not running too smoothly for Nicola, who is feeling
neglected as Simon seems to be making no effort in setting a date
for their wedding. Paul suggests that maybe she sets a date, but
she’s determined that the man should do it. But Simon’s
having none of it and reminds her that there’s no rush. |
|
Elsewhere, Ashley goes to see the Bishop and ask for permission
for him and Laurel to get married. But while the Bishop admits
that Laurel is a ‘delightful young lady’, he is not
certain that Ashley is making another mistake. |
|
The vicar reassures him that he loves Laurel, but the Bishop
brings up Louise, who he also had a fling with. He asks Ashley
if he isn’t still on the rebound from his failed marriage
to Bernice. He tells the vicar he needs to learn from his mistakes
and to consider God and his congregation. |
|
The Bishop doesn’t see how Ashley can talk to the parishioners
about love and fidelity ‘when you seem to go from woman to
woman’. He tells Ashley that he needs to think through his
decision and he’ll let the vicar know soon. |
|
The vicar heads home to break the news to Laurel, who is angry
that Ashley’s life must be dictated in such a way. But Ashley
reassures her: ‘We’re getting married, whatever he
says, whatever it takes.’ Does that mean you’ll give
up your job, though, Ashley?
