Katie leaves the village

Katie begins to wonder whether everyone would be better off without her

After a run-in with Edna (Shirley Stelfox), Katie’s (Sammy Winward) feelings of detachment from the villagers are confirmed. She begins to wonder whether everyone would be better off without her and secretly decides to leave the village for good.

Katie sits outside the caravan she shared with Robert holding the two goodbye letters she has written for Rob and Andy. Katie gets ready to leave the village

Before fleeing Emmerdale, Katie tells Robert (Karl Davies) she loves him, but he is unaware of the significance of her words. She later writes letters for both Robert and Andy (Kelvin Fletcher), apologising for the heartache she has caused.

Katie sits outside the caravan she shared with Robert holding the two goodbye letters she has written for Rob and Andy.

Later, Robert waits for Katie outside the exam hall until a friend explains that she didn’t show for the test. He races home only to discover her letter and is devastated by what he reads.

Jack consoles a heartbroken Robert and tells him it’s time to move back home. Meanwhile, Andy reads the letter from his ex-wife and although upset he is relieved to see the back of her. Is this really the last the brothers will see of Katie?

Elsewhere, Paddy (Dominic Brunt) almost puts his foot in it when he mentions wedding bells to Nicola (Nicola Wheeler). Sensing her confusion, Paddy asks Simon (Dale Meeks) what went wrong. He relays Nicola’s lie about the reunion and asserts Nicola obviously doesn’t feel the same way about him.

Nicola becomes increasingly concerned when Simon avoids her, and worries that he may have found out about her evening with Syd (Nathan Gladwell). Will they finally communicate and overcome this confusion?

Elsewhere, Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy) worries about the lack of intimacy in her relationship with Ashley (John Middleton). She tries to broach the subject but gets flustered and tells him she loves him.

They are interrupted when Ethan (Liam O’Brien) walks in asking if his fiancée can stay. Ashley is stunned, as Ethan has never mentioned a fiancée before. Meanwhile Laurel is left feeling frustrated!

Katie tells Chas that she can’t go on living in the village when everyone hates her, so she’s decided to leave. Chas says she should ask Robert to go away with her. Katie broaches the subject of moving away with Robert, but when he says that he wants to stay in the village to work things out with his dad Katie realises that he’s not prepared to leave. She tells him she loves him and returns to the caravan to pack her bags. Robert is heartbroken when he finds the letter. When Robert arrives at Jack’s tears Jack tells him that Katie’s going is for the best.
Still reeling from seeing Nicola with Syd Simon mopes around the village not knowing what to do with himself. He confides in Paddy that he knows Nicola has many faults but until now he’s been prepared to overlook them but he’s not sure he can overlook the events of last night. When Nicola finds the two of them having a heart to heart in the pub she is nonplussed when Simon tells her he has to take his mum to the bingo and quickly gets up and leaves.
Laurel makes the mistake of admitting to Nicola that her and Ashley have not yet slept together. Ever tactful Nicola assures Laurel that Ashley wasn’t so slow off the mark when he was with Louise or Bernice. Later Laurel tells Ashley that she sometimes feels lonely in the house at night and would like some company. Taking the hint Ashley invites her to spend the night at the vicarage. As they watch a romantic film it looks as they are about to get intimate when Ethan comes and announces that he’s invited his fiancé to come and stay next week.
