Sam confesses to knocking down Edna

Lisa (Jane Cox) and Sam (James Hooton) return home to a smug Cain, who has been released following police questioning.

However, Sam cries out in horror when he goes to his chicken coup to discover Cain (Jeff Hordley) has taken spiteful revenge and slaughtered his beloved chickens.

Cain insists this is his vengeance as Sam was driving the car, but Debbie (Charley Webb) is disgusted with her father and tells Ethan (Liam O’Brien) she can’t bear to live under the same roof as a murderer.

Jarvis (Richard Moore) finds a trembling Sam hiding by his shed and is shocked to hear of Cain’s behaviour. Sam admits he is frightened and goes on to confess that he knocked Edna (Shirley Stelfox) down. Appalled, Jarvis throws Sam out, shaking with rage.

Elsewhere in the village, Scott (Ben Freeman) is jealous of the attention Zoe (Leah Bracknell) is giving to their new estate manager, Callum (Andrew Whipp). Scott explains that he feels uncomfortable knowing that she is the boss. Wanting to show Scott how she feels about him, Zoe invites him to move into the house with her.

The police are unable to prove Cain was driving his car at the time Edna was knocked down and reluctantly let him go. Cain returns home determined to get revenge on Sam. When Sam and Lisa return Sam is distressed to find all of his chickens have been killed. Lisa is furious with Cain and refuses to listen to him when he tells her that Sam ran Edna down. Debbie is also appalled when she returns home and discovers what her father has done. Deciding to move out Debbie asks Ethan if she can stay with him. The curate says no.
Distraught Sam runs off and is found by Jarvis cowering in his garden. When Sam explains that Cain has killed his chickens Jarvis realises that all this must have something to do with Edna being knocked down. Jarvis assumes that Cain is threatening Sam to stop him from telling the police what he knows about Cain’s involvement with the accident. Jarvis is enraged when Sam tells Jarvis the truth. Shaking with rage Jarvis tells Sam he is spineless and tells him to get out of his sight.
Viv has got it into her head that Donna is too clingy with her boyfriends and tells her daughter that if she wants to keep Danny she must play hard to get. Donna is convinced that Danny is going off her when she is left at the Antiques Barn alone while he goes off to an auction with Chloe and Rodney. In the Woolpack Donna is decidedly frosty with Danny but she is left feeling awful when he gives her an expensive looking pair of earrings. She later confesses to Danny that she’s been taking her mother’s advice and they quickly make up.
Scott gets the hump when Zoe decides to give the estate manager’s job to a former army officer who he took an instant dislike to at his interview. When Zoe finds Scott sulking in the Woolpack he tells her that he doesn’t like the fact that she makes all the decisions. Zoe puts Scott in his place by reminding him that she’s the boss but asks him to move out of the flat and into the house at Home Farm. Scott takes this is as a sign that Zoe is serious about their relationship.
