--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The locals gather round in the Woolpack as a thrilled Betty (Paula
Tilbrook) receives a g’day message from Seth (Stan Richards)
in Australia, courtesy of Len (Peter Martin) and a laptop.
Over in Leeds, a lonely and increasingly drunken Pollard (Chris Chittell)
finds himself in an awkward position when he goes to pay his bill and
finds his wallet has gone missing. Threatened with the police unless
he pays, Pollard is forced to call Val (Charlie Hardwick) for help.
A triumphant Val swoops in enjoying her moment of power and explains
she will take her husband home to give him his medication!
Later on, Pollard reveals he will be alone for Christmas and Val suggests
that they spend Christmas Eve together at the hotel and go to Jack
(Clive Hornby) and Diane’s (Elizabeth Estensen) for Christmas
Day. Is this the beginning of a blossoming friendship?
Back at the Woolpack, Lesley (Sherrie Hewson) is in hot pursuit of
a terrified Rodney (Patrick Mower) who becomes increasingly anxious
as Paul (Mathew Bose) leaves them alone together. As Lesley edges towards
him, will Rodney have a Merry Christmas?
Elsewhere, after finding that Charity (Emma Atkins) won’t take
his calls, Cain (Jeff Hordley) enlists Debbie’s (Charley Webb)
help. He tells his daughter that he is in desperate need of money and
that he might have to beg Charity for a hand out.
Later that day, Debbie meets Charity and convinces her that Cain is
in serious trouble and needs her help more than ever. Charity agrees
to meet Cain after Christmas, but will he really go through with framing
his former lover?

Lesley makes it clear to Paul that she’s interested
in Rodney. Later, in the Woolpack, Rodney is embarrassed as Lesley
drops a number of heavy-handed hints. Mischievously Paul leaves
Rodney alone with Lesley claiming that he has to go home and finish
making dinner. Lesley tells Rodney that she is still looking for
someone to replace Simons’s father and hasn’t given
up hope of finding her soul mate. She clasps Rodney’s hands
to her and tells him that she has a feeling that this is going
to be a very special Christmas. |

Cain confesses to Debbie that he’s failed to come up with
the money he owes. He admits that he’s been trying in vain
to get hold of Charity because he’s so desperate that he’s
prepared to go to her for money. Debbie offers to speak to her
mother for him. Cain asks Debbie to get Charity to meet him at
a hotel near Hotten because he doesn’t want her coming to
see him at Butler’s Farm in case she gets in trouble with
Tom on the eve of their wedding. Charity is dismayed when Debbie
explains that Cain wants to see her because he’s in trouble. |

Diane enjoys her time with Val so much that she invites her sister
to spend Christmas with them. Meanwhile, Eric Pollard finds himself
in an embarrassing predicament. After polishing off two bottles
of vintage wine he discovers that his wallet is missing. In desperation
he calls the hotel and asks for Val, telling the receptionist she
is his wife. Val goes to his rescue. Eric confesses that he is
spending Christmas by himself. Val invites Eric to spend Christmas
with them and suggests to Eric that they begin their Christmas
back in his room. |

Zak and Shadrach face up to the chilling prospect of a booze
free Christmas. Marlon suggests that they give Rodney a try. Zak
replies that Rodney is a friend and a neighbour and also has a
double padlock on his shed door… Zak and Marlon’s prayers
are answered when Marlon returns to the Dingle homestead with a
car full of booze, kindly donated by their fellow angler Alan Turner. |
|
After making sure that Rodney gave her a handsome Christmas tip
Betty heads to the Woolpack and hits the sweet sherry with Pearl
and Edna. Just as the ladies are about to leave Len arrives and
insists that they have a drink with him while he sets up a laptop
on the bar. He has a surprise for Betty and plays a Christmas message
from Seth on the computer. Seth ends his message from down under
by asking Betty to sing Silent Night with him and her friends and
neighbours join in. |
