Review :-

A tender break by the seaside leaves Diane thoughtful and she reveals to Rodney why she’s been acting so strangely.

Val’s paranoia makes Jack worry more.

Nicola makes a splash as she bags her man.

Nicola goes to Scarborough to bag her man

Nicola (Nicola Wheeler) prepares to go to Scarborough to bag her man, but is put out when she discovers Jack (Clive Hornby), Val (Charlie Hardwick) and Victoria (Hannah Midgley) are catching a lift with her and Marlon (Mark Charnock).

Meanwhile, Simon (Dale Meeks) is working with his sister Bonnie (Viktoria Kay) and mum Lesley (Sherrie Hewson) in the fish quay and is not impressed to see his surprise visitor.

Sick and tired of Nicola’s questioning Simon shouts that he and Tash (Sally Evans) are not together and storms off.

Tear stained and humble, Nicola begs Lesley and Bonnie to tell her where Simon is and later shocks him when she turns up where his boat is moored and sits down, refusing to leave. Will Simon back down?

Meanwhile, Diane (Elizabeth Estensen) hides from Rodney (Patrick Mower) who finds her and tells her it is typical of her to drop a bombshell and then run away from him. Diane feels uncomfortable but Rodney is still unsure how to respond as he holds her close.

Later that day, Val (Charlie Hardwick) and Jack (Clive Hornby) turn up at the funeral and are told that Rodney and Diane seemed eager to leave together. Jack is furious and when he finally catches up with them on the promenade he punches Rodney in the face.

Val and Jack want answers from Rodney and Diane Jack punches Rodney while an alarmed Diane looks on

Rodney insists that Diane tell Jack the truth and claims that if she doesn’t, he will. Furious, Diane storms off leaving Rodney to deliver the news to a stunned Jack and Val.

Time for the truth

ITV.COM A Lovely Day Out Thursday 19.08.04
Despite Jack’s reservations Val is determined that they must go to Scarborough where they will catch Diane and Rodney ‘at it’. There’s only one snag though, Robert has borrowed Jack’s Land Rover. Much to everyone’s embarrassment Jack and Val, with Victoria in tow, are forced to catch a lift to Scarborough with Marlon and Nicola who is hell bent on reclaiming Simon from Tash. The journey to Scarborough is not without its hitches as Nicola slams the car boot down on Marlon’s hand and he has to be taken to casualty en route.
Meanwhile in Scarborough Diane heads for the beach after dropping her bombshell on Rodney as she disappeared into the hotel lift. Rodney searches frantically for Diane and eventually finds her hiding from him among the donkeys on the beach. Diane is dismayed to see Rodney is in tears and tells him that she doesn’t want his sympathy. Diane jokes about her condition and shocks Rodney but she eventually breaks down and Rodney holds her as the fact that she’s got cancer finally sinks in.
When Nicola arrives at the fish-gutting factory where Simon is working with his mum and his sister Bonnie Simon walks out on her. Nicola goes after him and tells him not to marry Tash. Simon tells her he has no idea what she’s talking about and leaves Nicola standing on the fish quay. Nicola pleads with Simon’s sister to help her. Bonnie, who has taken a shine to Marlon, agrees tell her where Simon is, if she tells her more about Marlon. Nicola finds Simon on his boat and climbs aboard determined to stay put.
Once Diane has composed herself they return to the hotel to get ready for the funeral. During the funeral Diane is caught short and they have to leave in a hurry. Meanwhile, Val and Jack go to the fairground and the fortuneteller tells them where the funeral is. When they arrive at the funeral, Billy, one of the mourners tells them that Rodney and Diane had seemed eager to leave. Jack begins to think that Val could be right and when they eventually catch up with Rodney and Diane Jack punches Rodney.
Rodney realises that Jack doesn’t know that Diane has cancer and pleads with Diane to tell Jack the truth. Diane runs off and Rodney is left to explain to Jack that his fiancé has cancer.
