Charity and Debbie share a moment together
After what happened yesterday at the trial, Charity is utterly despondent, and Debbie has to persuade her that this is her chance to make a good impression and change everyone's mind's back. Once she has changed into proper clothes, Charity persuades her daughter to stay at home. Debbie agrees, but says she will wait by the phone box for her mother to come home. At court, Charity's barrister is angry - her argument yesterday has given the prosecution carte blanche to do what they like - it's all down to her performance now.
A policeman visits Pollard - pictured Shelly and policeman
Pollard is suprised to be visited by a policeman at the factory. A pair of shoes that might belong to Gloria have been found in Hull by a well-known suicide spot. He needs to go to the station to identify the shoes, but convinces himself that he told them the wrong colour. Edna finally persuades him to at least eliminate the possibility - get some closure. Eric agrees, but then has to reluctantly confirm the shoes were the ones bought for Gloria's first official function as an MP.
Charity in the dock
In the dock, Charity says she couldn't kill Chris because she loved him, but the prosecution undermines her by bringing up past lies, the affair and her profession. She defiantly says the lies were only during the affair, and she was the one who stopped that. She adds that while she may have grown up on the streets, Chris changed her life for the better, and she respected him for that - being a tart doesn't make you a murderer. But the prosecution finds more contradictions, and wrap everything up with her visit to Zoe - 'the act of a guilty woman'. The jury retire to consider their verdict, and Charity has to sit and wait.

To her horror, Charity is found unanimously guilty, and Lisa is left with the job of having to go and tell Debbie, still sitting in the cold on the green waiting for her mother to return.
