ITV.COM Storm Damage
the scene of the car

Louise is still conscious after Ashley crashed his car into the river, but Ashley isn't responding at all. Louise is trapped and can't reach her mobile, so she has to cry into the storm for help.

Ashley regains consciousness - one leg is trapped, and he can't feel anything in the other.

Simon and Nicola miss the crashed car when they get to the blocked bridge, but Paddy gets out to look on his way to a call and hears their cries. He calls for help immediately, but the ambulance can't get Ashley out without the fire brigade - and they've only got ten minutes to cut him out.

When Louise is rescued she is whisked away, so Laurel keeps Ashley awake while they cut the roof off the car. She stops him losing consciousness, possibly saving his leg, and he is off to hospital with moments to go.

Tricia reads Marlon's letter Tricia pops in to say goodbye to Diane and is given Marlon's epic letter. The whole village's power suddenly fails, so she stuffs it into her pocket and heads out to the bus stop. But when the bus doesn't turn up she dives into the phone box to call a taxi, and reluctantly reaches into her pocket to find Marlon's letter while she is on hold. But as she reads the list by torchlight her grin gets wider and wider. By the time she's got to number 20 she forgets the taxi and walks through the storm towards the pub, and the list blows from her hand.

Suddenly, a lightning bolt strikes a nearby tree and it comes crashing down towards her. She trips as she tries to get away from it, and falls screaming to the ground, only to see another lightning bolt hit the chimney of the Woolpack directly above her. The whole roof collapses into the pub, and as a huge lump of wall plummets straight down onto her.
Tricia is trapped IInside, most of the customers are okay if shaken. Simon has already called 999 on his mobile and everyone has been led out via the back of the pub when Diane and Marlon see Tricia lying motionless in the rubble. He's desperately trying to get debris off her when she faintly says "I came back Marlon". Marlon keeps her going while the helicopter comes, and she wants to know the number one reason he loved her. Marlon tells her - every time he looks at her he realises he loves her even more. The paramedics get Tricia out of the bricks and stretcher her straight into a helicopter.
bad news at the hospital Marlon dashes to the hospital in Diane's car with Steph and Alan, where a doctor tells them that Tricia has massive internal injuries and is in a critical condition. Having got her back again, Marlon could have lost her forever.

News stories about the Storm

Ananova:

Emmerdale set for New Year storm

Emmerdale is set to be hit by a second major disaster with the arrival of a devastating New Year storm.

There will be at least one death in the show from what programme makers say will be "some of the soap's most dramatic scenes".

The show promises lavish special effects for the storm, which comes a decade after the village was torn apart by a plane crash, killing many.

The horrific weather will be seen hitting the Yorkshire village on New Year's Eve. Roof slates will be torn from houses by the howling wind as it rips through, plunging everyone into darkness.

Key characters will be involved in the plot, although programme chiefs are keeping a lid on who will die.

A one-hour edition of Emmerdale will also be seen on New Year's Day.

Series producer Steve Frost said: "We are confident that this will be the biggest soap event in the past ten years.

"Shooting the storm has involved specially created wind and rain effects, electronic post production and a vastly experienced stunt team.

"The entire cast are involved and no-one will be left unscathed."

Teletext: Emmerdale to be hit by death storm

Emmerdale is to be hit by a New Year "storm of the century" in which at least one of the characters dies.

The ITV1 soap village will be hit by horrific weather on December 31 with howling winds, slates torn from roofs and power cuts.

A spokeswoman said: "It will feature some of the soap's most dramatic scenes ever. The storm will leave behind a trail of destruction and heartbreak. Key characters are involved."

Emmerdale chiefs say the New Year storm plot will be the "the biggest soap event in 10 years".

Series producer Steve Frost said: "Shooting the storm has involved specially created wind and rain effects, electronic post production and a vastly experienced stunt team. The entire cast is involved and no-one is left unscathed."

But he refused to reveal the identity of the character who will die in the storm.

The plot will revive memories of the plane crash which hit the soap village in 1993.

Four people died in the late December tragedy including Annie Sugden's new husband Leonard Kempinski. The others were Archie Brooks, Mark Hughes and Elizabeth Pollard.

Following the scenes on December 31, there will be a one-hour Emmerdale special on New Year's Day.

Emmerdale harm

A VIOLENT storm is to hit Emmerdale — leaving residents buried alive.

Buildings collapse and roofs are blown away in the New Year special.

Key cast members will be killed off — including barmaid Tricia Dingle, who is played by Sheree Murphy.

She dies when a chimney falls from the Woolpack.

It is the ITV1 soap’s biggest tragedy since the Lockerbie-style jet disaster.

A show insider said: “It will be ten years to the day since the plane crash, where members of the cast were killed off in a fireball (pictured above).

“The scenes will be the most spectacular we’ve ever done and the storm will leave Emmerdale completely flattened.”

The drama unfolds in a one-hour episode on New Year’s Eve.

Fans will see the terrible aftermath in the following day’s episode.
