Week14-16 March 2000
Tuesday 14th March
Jack and Andy's visit to Hotten farm auction was like a flashback to the old Emmerdale Farm with the appearance of a cow accompanied by a soundtrack obviously borrowed from The Archers studio - cows and sheep lowed loudly and, if you closed your eyes, you could almost smell the silage as the country folk went about their business. Jack noticed wily John Wylie, Emily's father, who snuck off into the crowd. Back at home, Sarah was cross with Jack for hitting Robert and with Andy for bunking off school. Butch lost all respect for Zak who was pickling his liver in alcohol to avoid telling Nellie to take a hike. Sean and Angie finally realised that their ridiculous arguing could spell the end of their marriage and snuggled up on the sofa in way of a truce - hallelujah! Up at Home Farm, Chris fancied a night out and expected Claudia to resume where they had left off. The crafty minx was clever enough to enjoy a wheely lovely dinner but declined the after dinne! ! r drinks and whatever else Chris had in mind. She obviously knows you should treat 'em mean to keep 'em clean! Viv was thrilled to have a visit from Carlos in her shop but was unable to fulfil his needs. Later on she discovered from Scott that Richie and Chris have left him out of their business deal which fuelled her hatred for the Tates.

At breakfast, Zoe delighted in sour-faced Chris's frustration at being rejected by Claudia and waved away his advice about her own relationship with Frankie. Emily enlisted Kathy to go to Hotten with her to trace her father, but on finding the wanderer they discovered that he wants nothing to do with Emily while Butch is on the scene. This could prove a little tricky because later on that day Butch pledged his eternal love for his sweetheart and asked her to marry him. In frustration at the stalemate between Zak and Lisa the rest of the Dingles decided on a family conference to get them talking without Nellie, who was to be waylaid at the pub where she has landed a job as the cleaner. Viv channelled her hate of the Tates into an auspicious protest against Tate Haulage and tried to convince the gathered villagers how dangerous the lorries could be. Her one-woman rant was silenced when Zoe and Chris arrived to remind people that they employed many of them which took the wind out of Viv's sails and the crowd soon dispersed. Kathy's Diner could almost be in Home and Away with new chef Carlos behind the counter exuding charm and be! ! achy looks. Tricia and Bernice couldn't resist popping in to gawp and were NOT disappointed! Diane has even found herself a job at the Diner for maximum exposure to his charms. Coincidentally Marlon decided to create tapas for The Woolpack customers but it might take a little more than his culinary skills to attract his harem back!
Thursday 16th March
The day of the long-awaited adoption hearing dawned with Robert eager to spoil Andy's chances. When he revealed that Jack battered him the Judge thought he was being ironic and was happy to approve the adoption. Andy breathed again and the family rushed to the Diner to celebrate. Sarah was jolted by Andy calling her 'mum' and realised that she had to sever her relationship with toyboy Richie - but not before she checked his tonsils with her tongue one more time. Unfortunately Scott returned to the office to find them in a compromising position which will no doubt set the cat amongst the pigeons. Up at Wishing Well Cottage the Dingle family conference reached an impasse when Butch proposed that Nellie moves out. Zak was incensed, even more so when his thunder was stolen by Butch and Emily announcing their engagement. The man does not like feeling usurped! Viv's protest was not entirely in vain as Zoe pointed out to Chris the genuine concerns of the vill! ! agers about the lorries passing through the village. Frankie reminded Zoe that she accepts the profits from the company - which was somewhat rich coming from someone who sponges off those same profits!
