Thanks Sarah, Dionne and Rachel for what is below.
Week 14-18 Feb 2000
5 Episode Week
Awaiting Monday & Tuesday.
Jack questions Sarah over why she was late back the night before. She
manages to gloss over it by going on the offensive and having a go at
Jack for telling Kathy all their problems. She says she felt
humiliated when Kathy brought it up and she feels she can't go back to
Later she goes to the Diner to pick up her final wage packet and offers
a half-hearted apology to Kathy. Kathy must be in a good mood, as she
accepts the apology and says Sarah can continue to work there much to
Meanwhile, Scott notices that Richie is distracted at work and teases
him about it. Richie doesn't say who it is who's causing his mind to
wander, but does mention that he doesn't know if it's going anywhere.
When Richie comes into the Diner at lunchtime he and Sarah have a
clandestine chat. Sarah admits that last night was fantastic and
Lisa is still going on at Zak to get rid of Nellie and Butch tends to
side with her because Nellie keeps upsetting Emily. Zak gets in a huff
as they're ganging up on him and tells them that Nellie is a Dingle and
will always be welcome.
Later Ollie comes round to see if Zak liked the valentine card she sent
him as a laugh. However, Lisa and Zak can't see the funny side and Zak
tells her to get out while Nellie just gloats in the corner in her
curlers. Since it wasn't Nellie who sent the card, Zak tells Lisa she
ought to be a bit more civil to her. Lisa is exasperated that Zak
can't see that Nellie is trying to break them up.
Roy and Kelly
Kathy asks Zoe if she could see her way to letting Roy and Kelly stay
in one of her many properties. Zoe has a think about it and agrees.
She and Kathy go to break the good news to Roy but when Zoe tells him
which cottage it is he's furious. Zoe is confused (as was I) until
Kathy reminds her it was where Kim and Dave did the deed. Zoe says she
completely forgot but perhaps they ought to forget the idea for now.
Lynn is back in the village having been busy with college. She hasn't
heard about the Kelly saga until Tricia breaks it to her in the
Woolie. She's surprised Scott didn't mention it, but thinks he's just
upset and is bottling things up. She goes round to see him and offers
to help with any problems he might have. However, she's not prepared
for the bombshell that Scott drops on her when he tells her about him
and Kelly. She's shocked and disgusted, especially when she realises
he might have been the father of the baby. She dashes off, despite his
pleas for her to stay.
Chris is back from his trip to Hamburg and is rather surprised to find
Kelly is still in Emmerdale. He's also not happy that the others at
Tate Haulage have been planning "Tate Tours" without him. He accuses
Zoe of trying to run his life, just like their father. She says he
doesn't have to stay at Home Farm so he immediately packs his stuff and
goes back to the cottage with Joseph. Zoe is upset that she won't get
to see Joseph as often.
Both Seth and Betty are unsure about the whole marriage thing, though
they don't admit this to each other.
Emily is worried about her dad's whereabouts, so Kathy offers to help
her find him.
Kathy is fed up when her good intentions go wrong and Graham seizes his
opportunity to suggest she needs a break.
Robert is keen to get a job at the Diner but, after their recent run-in,
Sarah isn't willing to ask Kathy for a favour and tries to put him off.
Jack suggests the kids help out on the farm but, while Andy jumps at the
offer, Robert isn't interested and tells Sarah he'll ask Kathy himself.
At the Diner, Richie asks Sarah to come to his office that afternoon.
Kathy notices that Sarah is chatting to Richie instead of working and
she and Sarah exchange a few more terse words.
Scott tells Richie that Lyn has dumped him but Richie is unsympathetic.
He tells Scott that he's sick of hearing his problems and that he
doesn't want to see him at the office for the rest of the day - leaving
the way open for Sarah to visit.
Unfortunately, when Sarah comes over to see him, she bumps into Eric.
She pretends that she was looking for Scott and tries to make a quick
exit. Eric tries to tell her his concerns about Kathy and Graham but
Kathy isn't exactly Sarah's favourite person at the moment and she isn't
interested in hearing what Eric has to say. Richie sees Sarah leaving
and hammers on the window but, with Eric watching, Sarah has no choice
but to carry on walking.
Richie is upset that Sarah didn't come up to see him and thinks she
wants to finish their relationship but he is relieved when she explains
why she walked away. Sarah is still feeling guilty but Richie reminds
her that this is the happiest she's been in years and says they can't
stop now unless one of them leaves the village.
Kathy & Graham
Graham phones the school pretending to be ill and then spends the day
preparing for his weekend away. He tells Kathy that he is happy to go
by himself but tries to tempt her by telling her of all the goodies he's
buying to take with him. Kathy says she'd like to go but she can't
leave the Diner. Graham tells her there is no pressure and leaves her
to think about it.
Kathy tells Betty about Graham's plans for the weekend and Betty
convinces her to go, telling her she can cope with the Diner.
Marlon and Eric are still trying to make Graham crack, talking about
using a lawyer to expose the truth. Graham refuses to rise to the bait
and puts them off the trail by pretending he's on his way to the
school. As soon as they've gone, he gets back to preparing for his
weekend away with Kathy.
Zoe is brooding over Chris' departure and is missing Joseph terribly.
Frankie astutely observes that Chris knows exactly how to press Zoe's
buttons and speculates that she'll soon be begging Chris to move back
in. Zoe tells her that Chris will come round soon enough - when he
needs a babysitter - but Frankie's sure that Zoe will make the first
Meanwhile, Claudia is moving Chris and Joesph's stuff back into Chris'
cottage with Chris, naturally, not lifting a finger to help. Chris
informs her that they'll all be moving back to Home Farm soon, once Zoe
has 'learnt her lesson'.
Frankie tries to convince Zoe to go out to The Woolpack but she is too
upset and says she can't face all the questions. Kelly comes in,
oblivious to what's been going on, and wants to know what's wrong with
Zoe. Frankie makes Kelly feel guilty by telling her that Zoe is
worrying about her.
Lisa is still on at Zak to get rid of the pink diesel. Zak tries to
flog some to Sean but, when he sees it's pink, he's not interested and
tells Zak to try Jack Sugden.
Nellie and Butch have a heart-to-heart about the past and Butch's
feelings that his siblings were given preferential treatment while he
was 'cast aside'. Nellie tells him that she's proud of the way he's
turned out. Butch is touched by this and tells Nellie that he's missed
her. Later, when tempers yet again flare between Lisa and Nellie, Butch
tries to pacify Lisa and seems to be sticking up for his mother more.
Betty & Seth
Betty confides in Kathy that she's having second thoughts about marrying
Seth and would prefer things to stay as they are, but she thinks Seth
will be upset when she tells him. Later, Seth tells Bernice that he
isn't too keen on the idea but that he can't back out as he thinks Betty
would be devastated. Bernice says, if he tells Betty how he feels, he
might be surprised by her reaction but Seth isn't convinced.
In between teasing Marc, Tricia and Bernice plot to get Betty and Seth
to have an honest talk about getting married. Finally, Betty admits
that she made a mistake by asking Seth to marry her. Seth says that
he's had a few doubts himself as Betty wouldn't be able to play the
'wanton Jezebel' if she were a married woman. With the matter resolved,
Seth and Betty disappear off home for an early night...
As it was Graham's last episode, naturally the whole episode was taken
up with his final hours. It opens with Graham & Kathy walking along
the cliff, talking about how happy they seem together. Graham gets
completely intense, stating that he has never been more happy than he
is at that moment, and feeling that all he needs in life is Kathy. On
the other hand, she is unsure that she wants to get involved in
another deep relationship, and tells him so. He is upset.
In the Diner, Eric casually asks Sarah about Kathy. She tells him that
she's away with Graham, but doesn't know exactly where. Eric is
horrified and rushes off to find Marlon. They go to see Roy, who has
no idea where they've gone, so they decide to break into Mill Cottage.
Back at Hellvelyn, Graham is still trying to persuade Kathy to go away
with him and to make a firm commitment. He feels that he knows what's
best for her, and that she will be happy if she would only do as he
says. Kathy asks what would happen if she didn't; he replies that
"history will repeat itself". She grows alarmed, and goes off to her
room to lie down.
Graham pops in a few minutes later and catches Kathy packing her bags.
She wants to go back to the village to think about her future and
where Graham stands with her. Graham doesn't want her to go, and tells
her so. To prove his point, he locks the bedroom door.
Back in the village, Eric is keeping watch outside Mill Cottage as
Marlon searches for clues inside. He finds a holiday brochure and
rings the company, posing as Graham's brother Martin and needing to
speak to him urgently. At that moment, Angie spots Eric loitering
outside and demands to know what he's doing there. When he repeats his
suspicions about Graham, she gets pissed off and tells him that she
can do him for harassment. Marlon turns up at that moment, and the
pair make a quick escape.
Meantime, Graham tells Kathy why he has to leave Emmerdale - because
of Marlon & Eric's suspicions about his involvement in Rachel's death.
He wants her to go with him because he wants someone to love and to
love him in return. Kathy begins to twig that he *was* involved in
Graham's death, but manages to persuade him to open the door as he
loves her. Once out of the bedroom, she grabs the car keys and slowly
walks to the car, turning round to see Graham looking at her. She then
slowly gets into the car, dropping the car keys, and is shocked to see
Graham at the window.
(Writer's note: most people would have dashed to the car, activated
central locking and drove off asap. However, this is Kathy Glover,
Soap Bimbo supreme, who lets him into the car. Daft bint).
While Eric & Marlon are getting lost in the Lakes, Kathy is driving
home with Graham telling her not to. When she suggests that he get
help (just like Rachel did), he loses it and tries to stop the car.
The car hurtles forward and comes to a sudden stop, teetering at the
edge of a cliff....
Kathy is terrified, but manages to undo her seat belt so that she can
get out from the rear. She tries to get Graham to do the same thing,
but he is too scared to do anything other than whimper "We're gonna
die! I don't wanna die!". Eventually, he moves forward. Kathy manages
to get out just as the car plunges over the cliff. Marlon & Eric (who
had no idea where they were before) turn up just in time to see the
car blow up, with Graham still in it. They are relieved to see Kathy
claw her way up the hill, unhurt and with make-up still intact.
