Thanks Sarah, Dionne and Rachel for what is below.
Week 11-13 April 2000
The Dingles The bulk of the episode centres on the cause of the crash, and Zak coming to terms with Nellie's revelation about Lisa's involvement. Nellie has guessed that Zak thinks she said that to try and stop him throwing her out, but she did it out of love for her son. At that moment, a flying pig appears in the background. Zak reassures Nellie that she can stay, but he's still worried about Lisa, and goes to see her at the garage. Just as he arrives, the police are leaving. Lisa looks worried - the cops has just told her the cause of the crash and she feels she is solely responsible. She goes to see Chris, who is his usual caring, supportive self when he tells her that all th documents (including the incomplete service document) are with the investigators. He also tells Lisa that Tate Haulage have suspended their contract with her until after the investigation. Lisa is distraught. Back at the garage, Roy is told that he will only be needed on a part time basis due to the lack of work. Roy doesn't mind, but slips back into doormat persona as he wants to keep it from Miss Piggy. Meantime, Zak is determined to find out the truth, and asks Roy why the police were at the garage. Roy tells him to ask Lisa, so instead Zak asks Marlon, who hasn't heard much more than the standard pub gossip. He finally goes to see Lisa, and asks her outright if she was responsible. Lisa looks suitably guilty; Zak is suitably appalled. He is trying to forget about it later, but Nellie twigs and tells him that it gave her no pleasure in revealing the truth (just as that pig appears again). Adam In his best Blue Peter voice, Adam reveals that he once traveled around Spain as he enthuses over Carlos' Spanish menu. Carlos tells him that he's got a lot of plans to update the menu, including a new take on Spanish meatballs. Later, Adam swans into the Woolpack kitchen (as you do) and tells an excited Tricia that he'l be cooking a special dinner for her - those meatballs. (Note: there is a proper Spanish name for these, but I can't spell them and I don't want to offend any Spanish speakers). Anyway, Marlon is unimpressed, seeing Adam as a flash git and feeling that Tricia could do so much better (namely: Marlon). Tricia is too excited to care, though. Later in the Woolie, Marlon has tentatively agreed to Kathy's idea of a cooking contest between him & Carlos, and picks Diane's brains about Carlos' cooking style. Diane mentions that he cooks a lot of Spanish food, including..... you guessed it, those meatballs. Marlon immediately twigs that Adam paid Carlos to cook for him, and counts it as another black mark against Blue Peter when Carlos confirms it. Bernice and Ashley It's the week after the big confession, and the episode opens with Bernice looking upset. Now, I suspect that most women would be at least flattered that a caring, decent man had declared their love for her. Not Bernice - she feels betrayed. Whatever. She continues to be inexplicably upset for the rest of the episode, and she and Tricia put on their best dagger stares when Ashley enters the Woolie. He tries to stick it out and have a chat with her, but she asks him to leave. Richie and the Sugdens Another loser in love is Richie, as Sarah realises just how much she'd lose if she continues the affair. Richie loses all his senses and tries to see Sarah *in her bedroom, in her home*. He's desperate to see her, but she isn't so keen and tells him to leave. At DaleTec, Richie throws himself into work when Scott comes in, wearing his best Evil Grin. Richie tries to style it out, saying that he has no money, but Scott taunts him about having a grandmother complex. Just as Richie's about to punch him (yay!), Scott reminds him that it's all good fodder for telling Jack the truth (boo!). Richie writes out a cheque, but Scott only asks for £50. I guess being a cheap bastard has never left him. Marc and Donna Despite Angie and Viv's warnings, our two young lovebirds continue to meet in secret. They style it out at the bus stop by ignoring each other, but Marc tells her that hell meet her in their usual spot at lunchtime. The usual spot is an empty classroom, where Donna is reading Romeo and Juliet and comparing it to their situation (madly in love teenagers kept apart by OTT parents). Marc reminds her that they could be in serious trouble if their parents find out, and wonders how she's going to go to a concert without Viv finding out. Donna responds by quoting Shakespeare, which will be as convincing to Viv as Tim Vincent's acting. Other stuff: -- As mentioned earlier, Kathy organises a cooking contest between Carlos and Marlon to raise money for the crash victims. -- Kathy also learns that Chris is blaming everyone but himself for the crash, and goes to see him. She's furious, stating that he is hiding behind others and is preventing the truth about the crash from coming out. She vows hat he will *not* get away with it
. Ends -- Dionne
Sugdens Richie is desperate to see Sarah, but is unwittingly foiled in his attempts by the rest of the family. Eventually he manages to get her on her own, only to find Sarah seems to have gone off the whole idea of a relationship. Since the crash, she's realised how much her family mean to her, including Jack. Richie tells her that he loves her but she says it's over. Also in the Sugden household, Andy is still having problems plucking up the courage to ask Ollie out. He goes to Sarah for advice (after all she knows about young men!), but she tells him not to worry as he doesn't need to rush into anything. She says he has plenty of time to find a girlfriend but Andy isn't so sure. Dingles Nellie is still hanging round like a bad smell and nerves are getting frayed round at the Dingles. Zak storms out at breakfast so that when Lisa comes to see him she finds Nellie on the doorstep instead. Nellie tells her to get lost as she killed her son. As they're arguing Zak comes home and Lisa pleads with him to let her explain (but why didn't she explain yesterday when she had the chance?!!). Of course now that he's had the chance to stew over it he doesn't want to hear what she has to say and barges past her into the house. Emily's upset by the whole affair and calls after Lisa, but when Nellie orders her inside she meekly obeys. Later she tells Sam how she feels she's failed Butch by not getting Zak and Lisa back together. Sam tries to console her, but when she starts crying he doesn't know what to do and makes his excuses to leave. That evening Nellie tries to turn Zak even more against Lisa by going on about how Dingles should stick together. However, Zak's finally had enough of Nellie's manipulation, especially as she seems to be trying to use Butch's death to her advantage. He spits in the meal she's cooked and orders her to get out. Ashley and Bernice Ashley confesses to Zoe about him telling Bernice of his feelings for her. Zoe thinks it's great until Ashley tells her how it went horribly wrong. Zoe offers to talk to Bernice but Ashley says no. He's worried that he's ruined everything, including any chance of friendship. Meanwhile, in the Woolpack, Bernice is getting advice from all angles. Diane wants to know if Bernice actually fancies Ashley. Bernice thinks for a minute and admits she doesn't exactly want to rip his clothes off. However, Diane says that's not necessarily a bad thing as when Bernice has gone for "hunks" in the past things haven't worked out. Kathy also tries to put Ashley's case by saying that good friends can be something more. She regrets never getting more serious with Biff (what more serious than getting married?!). Tate Haulage Kathy's trying to arrange some sort of meeting between Tate Haulage, the council and the villagers or something (sorry, wasn't paying attention at this point!). She's surprised when Eric makes a good suggestion about getting the papers and tv involved and armed with this she goes to see Chris. She invites (well demands more like) him to come to the meeting and explain what happened. He's reluctant as he thinks the people don't want answers but revenge. Kathy flounces off in disgust. Meanwhile Sean tries to speak to Lisa. At first she doesn't want to talk to him as she thinks Tate Haulage are trying to pin the crash on her. However, when Sean tells her how he's been voted off the board they sit down to chat. She insists she told Pete about the truck and Sean believes her. However, he thinks it's a bit fishy that Pete didn't mention it to anyone at Tate Haulage as he was a stickler for the rules. We can see a little light bulb flickering over Sean's head as he ponders over the fact that if Pete didn't tell him then perhaps he told someone else. Also Eric proposes going into business together to Marlon. He gave some samples of Marlon's pies to some people he knows at a supermarket chain and they were impressed (must have been easily impressed if they liked pies that had been stuffed in Eric's pockets!).
The Reynolds Sean is spending his time gardening and doesn't seem too interested in getting back on the board, much to Angie's chagrin. She tells him that providing for his family should be his first priority. Later, Kathy pops round and he plants the idea in her head that Chris forced Pete to drive the lorry but tells her it's going to be difficult proving it. Meanwhile, Ollie has suddenly acquired some expensive possessions - a flash pair of trainers, which she claims a friend has lent her, and some computer games which she sells to Andy and Robert, telling them that she's had them a while and has completed all the levels on them. Bernice & Ashley Bernice is still upset about Ashley's revelation, feeling that he has betrayed her and that all the time she thought he was being supportive all he wanted was to jump into bed with her. Kathy tries to change her mind but Bernice is unconvinced. Later, Bernice visits Ashley at the vicarage. She tells him that she resents him having concealed his true feelings from her , pointing out that he even offered to marry her and Gavin, despite harbouring feelings for her himself. She says he probably wanted to split them up all along and Ashley admits that he didn't think Gavin was right for her. Bernice asks if Ashley thinks he's the right man for her and Ashley tells her that that's for her to decide. Back at the Woolpack, Marlon suggests she gives it a go with Ashley but she tells him that she's had enough of men who spring surprise 'revelations' on her. The meeting Eric tells Kathy he is going to organise the press coverage for the meeting about the crash. Kathy isn't pleased when she finds that the journalist covering the event is the same one who wrote the story about her and Graham but Eric tells her that it's best to have him on their side than on the Tates' side. Kathy goes round the village drumming up support for her meeting but Chris clearly has something up his sleeve. The Dingles Zak tells Nellie she's outstayed her welcome and he wants her out. Old resentments surface and Zak reminds her of how she abandonned him and the kids. Nellie turns to Ashley for support but it is clear that he sympathises with Lisa. Nellie suggests that having another baby would help cement her relationship with Zak. Finally, Nellie packs her bags to leave [hurray!] but , after they've talked, Zak goes soft and tells her she can stay until morning . :-( The Sugdens Richie is upset that Sarah is playing happy families and pretending that everything's okay but Sarah tells him she's doing it for her family's sake. She makes it clear that the Farm, the kids and her marriage are more important to her than a few moments of passion with Richie. Later, Scott visits Richie at work and Richie tells him that there's nothing to blackmail him over anymore as he and Sarah have split up. However, Scott reminds him that Jack still wouldn't be too pleased to find out what has gone on between the two of them. Following Pete's death, Richie's old room is free again. Terry wants to invite Carlos to move in but Marlon doesn't want to live under the same roof as his rival. When Marlon finds out that Richie isn't happy at the Sugdens, he and Terry agree that Richie can move back in with them.
