Thanks Sarah and Dionne for what is below.
week 11-13 Jan 2000
Unfortunately, I missed the first 5 minutes of these, so if I have
missed any vital scenes then perhaps someone can fill us in! (g)
It's like the Antarctic at the farm at the moment. Jack is desperately
trying to sort things out between him & Sarah, but she doesn't want to
speak to him at all. In despair he mopes around the village for most
of the day, lamenting to Lisa that selling the car didn't provide the
result he'd hoped for (when she gives him the profit made from selling
However, Andy notices the dramatic downturn in events, and waits up to
speak to Jack when he returns home from the pub. He tells Jack that it
is unlikely he would be adopted unless Jack & Sarah remain together.
Jack tells him that no matter what happens, he will always be Andy's
father. Andy isn't happy with that, and begs Jack to try and change
Sarah's mind. Jack is reluctant, but agrees to do it when he sees
Ashley & Bernice
Ashley is trying to pluck up the courage to tell Bernice exactly how
he feels. However, he's unable to get Bernice on her own. Diane twigs
what Ashley is trying to do, and tries to prevent it by telling
Bernice that he's looking for help for the church fair. She also wants
to try to speak to Ashley first to put him off the idea.
Undeterred, Ashley enters the Woolie and asks to speak to Bernice
urgently. Diane tries to stop him, but Bernice seems keen and takes
him into the back. Once there, she declares that she will be available
for him. Ashley is thrilled at this turn of events, and leans in for a
kiss before he discovers that Bernice is talking about the fete. He
then tries to explain his feelings for her, but she talks over him and
comments on how grateful she is for his friendship. Realising that
Diane has thwarted his plans, Ashley leaves.
Lisa is desperate to keep the house tidy for the health visitor later
in the week, but Zak decides to fix an engine in the middle of the
living room. Lisa isn't impressed, but Zak doesn't see why he has to
clean the house for some "posh bint".
Emily tries to find a contact number for her father, but the
auctioneers are giving nothing away.
Paddy receives a phone call from Mandy - she's coming back to the
village the next day.
-- Chris returns to work, declaring that he's back for good this time.
Certainly nothing has changed as he gets into a slanging match with
Sean and tells Pete off for using the phone.
-- Zoe can't get hold of Frankie. Eventually Pete tells her that she's
working in Manchester.
-- Scott tells Kelly that Lyn is going to be around for a while, in
case she still had feelings for him. She denies it, and goes into her
usual strop by chucking more work in a draw and generally pouting.
-- Kathy & Graham share an intimate dinner. Graham seems quite keen to
move forward in their relationship, but Kathy feels guilty about
Zoe and Frankie
Zoe manages to track Frankie down by ringing round the haulage yards in
the phone book and goes to see her despite Chris continuing to tell her
it's a bad idea. When she gets there, Frankie is her usual surly self
but Zoe is insistent that they need to talk (she's sure that Frankie
turning up at Home Farm was a sign that there could be something
Zoe offers Frankie her old job back, though she'd only be able to do
loading because of losing her license. Frankie is reluctant, saying
she wants to try and get her life sorted out and needs some space at
the moment after coming out of a 4 year relationship. When Zoe agrees
and starts to go, Frankie is surprised but Zoe plays it cool and says
Frankie knows where to find her if she wants to.
Later at Home Farm, Chris laughs at her for failing in her pursuit of
Frankie. This gets Zoe's back up and she informs Chris that she may
have failed but he's the biggest loser going.
When Betty gets all dolled up to go out, Diane teases her about having
a "fancy man", not knowing that she's hit a raw nerve. Betty sneaks
off to meet up with Reggie at a tea room in Hotton but is anxious that
someone she knows might see her. Reggie puts her mind at rest and
turns on the charm. They have a good time until Reggie brings up
Betty's past and makes some suggestive comments. She gets flustered
and decides to go, telling him they shouldn't see each other again.
Diane's uncertain about helping out Bernice financially as Bernice has
always been very independent. She confides to Alan that she's worried
that Bernice won't want her hanging around the Woolpack all the time
and that they can have blazing rows when they live together. Alan
reassures her so she makes the offer and Bernice is delighted.
Knowing Zak isn't keen on the Health Visitor, Lisa and Butch try to
trick him by telling him the wrong time that she's coming to visit and
then tidying up when he goes out. However, he comes home early and is
furious to find the visitor there, promptly chucking her out. He's
adamant that he doesn't need some namby-pamby do-gooder telling him how
to bring up his daughter.
Zak has a go at Butch for going soft since he started going out with
Emily and Butch resolves to try and be a "true" Dingle from now on.
Later, Mandy comes back to a rapturous welcome. Kelly tries to talk to
her but can't get her on her own and eventually gives up.
Jack wants to try and work things out but his words fall on deaf ears
as Sarah claims she doesn't love him anymore and there's no point. As
they're talking, the boys are listening at the door. Andy gets very
upset, especially since Jack told him it'd be ok the day before, and
runs off crying.
-- Viv is still being rude to most of her customers, Kathy being the
-- Graham corners Eric in the Woolpack and warns him to stay away from
Kathy, giving him the "gonnagetyou"(tm) look.
The bulk of this episode involved Kelly & her family, so we'll start
Because of falling trade, Viv decides to sell the shop and move away
with Donna. Donna is upset, declaring that all her mates are here
(presumably in the cupboard) and she doesn't want to leave. Emily is
also worried, especially as she will have nothing to do now her dad
has disappeared. About the only person who seems pleased is Roy, when
he convinces Viv to give her Kelly's deposit out of the proceeds of
Meanwhile, Kelly is doing her daily routine of wallowing in self pity.
She again tries to talk to Mandy, but she goes out for the day with
Paddy. Eventfully she returns, allowing Kelly to pour out her heart to
However, when Kelly admits that she slept with Scott while Roy was in
prison, Mandy's reaction isn't what she expects. Instead of patting
Kelly on the head and saying "there there", Mandy tells it like it is
and states that what Kelly's done is wrong and disgusting. Kelly
starts to cry, but Mandy stands firm.
Meantime, Paddy has found Kelly's stash of work and storms into the
room. He's incensed that Kelly has got so far behind in her work while
she's been pouting all day, and sacks her. Kelly begs him for another
chance, and after a nod from Mandy, Paddy agrees. He puts her on
probation, stating that he will sack her if she goes out of line
Kelly leaves, telling Mandy that she's all alone in the world as she
no longer has a best friend. Mandy is upset by this, but Kelly pouts
Andy is still upset about Jack & Sarah's break-up. He bunks off school
to have a talk with Sarah. He tell her that all he longs for is a
proper family, but it looks as though he'll never get one after what
happened with his dad.
Sarah tries to tell him that it will not be easy, but Andy begs ther
to stop arguing with Jack and to give the marriage another go. Later,
Sarah has a talk with Jack, both of them wondering how they went to
compatible literary pair to incompatible domestic couple. They agree
to cut down on the arguments for the kids' sakes.
Bernice makes a long-awaited announcement in the Woolpack - Diane has
taken over Gavin's mortgage, and they will be running the Woolie as an
equal partnership. Everyone is pleased, especially Alan & Pollard.
Meanwhile, Ashley has decided that he will bide his time with Bernice
and become her best friend in the meantime. Zoe doesn't think it's a
good idea, but Ashley is thrilled when Bernice invites him on a secret
"date" later that evening. However, she invites him out as a witness
to her moving on with her life, starting by throwing her engagement
ring in the river. Ashley is pleased that she asked him, and vows that
he will always be with her, for better or worse.
-- Graham gets jealous when he sees Kathy talking to another bloke,
and wants to know when they can come out as a couple so that it
doesn't happen again. Kathy replies that there is no need to do that
-- Zoe is still upset about Frankie, and snaps at Chris, Claudia and
Kelly. This causes Chris endless amusement.
