Thanks Sarah, Dionne and Rachel for what is below.
Week 1-3 Feb 2000
For someone who was near deaths door in the previous week, Kelly is
looking very well and even accepting visitors. Mandy is a constant
presence at her bedside, apologising for being a crap mate and giving
assurances that she will not let her down in the future. However, Kelly
feels she needs time to think about whiter she wants to do.
Later that morning, Betty suddenly senses that Kelly needs a shoulder
to cry on and goes to visit her. At first Kelly tries to get rid of
her, but Betty is persistent and states that they can talk about
anything but the suicide bid. To empathise with Kelly, Betty tells her
about a friend of hers who also lost a baby in tragic circumstances
(an unwanted abortion). Kelly twigs it was Betty, who naturally denies
it. The pair make a pact to cry on each others shoulders should things
get on top of them.
(My thoughts: a well acted scene between the two, with Kelly smiling
for the first time in several years to boot).
Later, Kelly tells Mandy that she is going to tell Roy the truth about
the suicide bid. Mandy warns her that it would destroy him, but Kelly
is determined to tell him the truth.
Betty has her own problems - Camp Reggie is still at the cottage.
Betty asks him to leave immediately, but Reggie puts her off by telling
her that he will have to tell Seth the truth.
Later, Seth finds Betty in tears in their bedroom. She asks if hes
happy; he replies that she makes him the happiest man alive and if
shes upset, then he is upset. Betty tells him about her longing for a
child (but not about the abortion) and admits that she lies in bed at
night wondering how her children would have developed. Seth reassures
her that she is in fact a mother to half the village, especially Kathy
and Bernice, and shes adopting grandchildren by comforting Kelly.
Betty bursts into tears of joy.
Marc is still pissed off with his parents over their non-attendance at
the school parents evening. Angie & Sean offer to stay at home that
evening instead of going to the cinema, but Marc states that hes got a
ton of homework to do.
Later, Marc rebels by inviting his mates round for a booze & video
evening. The house is left in a tip, and Ollie teases Marc about
getting it cleared up before Sean & Angie return. He bribes her into
helping by telling her that he will grass her up for sneaking out while
he was supposed to be looking after her.
Graham, Eric & Marlon
The episode opens with Graham calmly burning Erics note. He senses
that he has nothing to worry about, but Marlon is now convinced that
Graham was responsible for Rachels death. The pair agree to join
forces to bring Graham to justice, realising they cant involve the
police or anyone else without solid proof.
-- Frankie overhears Bernice, Betty & Tricia talking about the cleaning
job at the Woolpack. She asks if she can have it, but Bernice isnt
keen. She soon changes her mind when Tricia comments on how lesbians
are good with their hands.
-- Angie tries to find a new man for Sarah now that shes free. She
thinks that Terry would be a good match, but Sarah is still quite
interested in Richie. However, he is feeling awkward about the whole
thing is tries to avoid both Jack & Sarah.
-- Chris sees the Wylie Farm up for sale and decides to put in an
offer. He feels it would be a good investment to build executive homes
on at a later date. However, ZoŽ isnt keen on the idea.
Scott goes to see Kelly who has made her mind up what she needs to do.
She's decided she's going to tell the truth about everything that's
happened as it was keeping secrets that drove her to suicide in the
first place. He pleads with her not to, saying he kept all her letters
and the tape, but she's adamant. She also tells him that they can't
see each other anymore.
Scott is upset but doesn't make a scene. When he gets back to the
village he burns Kelly's letters and tape. Viv catches him and
questions him over what Kelly said. He doesn't admit anything but says
that Kelly is always looking to blame someone other than herself.
Later Roy also pays a visit to the hospital, putting on his best suit
but still forgetting to wash his hair. Perhaps he's too anxious about
what he's going to hear. His fears are confirmed when Kelly just
comes right out and tells him about everything that happened with Scott
including the fact that she doesn't know whose baby it was. He's
totally stunned and can't believe it. As he blubbers she goes on to
tell him that she's going to leave and go to London so they can both
make a fresh start. She's actually quite calm, though glum, and tries
to explain that she married him for all the wrong reasons and that he
deserves better than her. As Roy is still too upset to really say
anything, she's moves to comfort him, but he pushes her away and storms
out, leaving Kelly to cry on her own.
Betty confides in Ashley about how she fell in love with a scoundrel
when she was young and ended up having an abortion. At first Ashley
suggests that she should leave it in the past until she confesses that
it was Reggie who she was involved with. Ashley looks a bit shocked,
since it was him who booked him for the village hall do. Betty is
worried that Reggie may say something to Seth.
When Sean goes to Lisa's yard to see about some work, she mentions that
they found a load of empty alcopop bottles in their rubbish that
morning. Sean immediately assumes Ollie is to blame and heads home to
sort it out.
Sean and Angie are waiting when Ollie gets home. They've already
talked to Mark, who's dropped Ollie right in it by saying he was
upstairs doing his homework all night but that he heard Ollie playing
music downstairs. Ollie says it wasn't her, but can see that she's
getting nowhere and gives up trying to explain. She goes round Zak's
to have a moan about how her parents always believe Golden-Boy Mark.
Frankie's decided that she needs to find a place of her own so she can
have some space, which suprises Zoe who thought she was staying at Home
Farm. To assert her independence, Frankie goes off to the Woolie
Things are awkward between Sarah and Richie when they bump into each
other in the Diner. Sarah says they need to talk, but Richie fobs her
off by saying he's snowed under at work.
Marlon is shocked to discover that Graham's wife comitted suicide.
When he tells Eric they realise they have to do something soon before
Kathy becomes the third woman Graham's killed (unless Graham becomes
number 3 in Kathy's death toll first!).
Hello and welcome to your Thursday Emmerdale update. This is my first
update so please be gentle with me. However, if you have any
*constructive* criticisms, please send them to
Anyway, on with the episode:
Kelly & Roy
Donna discovers that Roy didn't come home last night but Viv is
unconcerned and concludes that he must have stayed overnight at the
clinic. However, she is hurt to discover that Kelly has asked Donna,
but not her, to visit Kelly at the clinic after school.
Roy talks to Seth about Kelly and asks what you should do if you find
out a secret from your loved one's past. Seth tells him that he can't
change what has happened and that he only has two options: to forgive or
to forget. Roy's not sure if he can do either.
Chris visits Kelly. She thanks him for paying for the private clinic
but Chris says that he owed her as he feels the advice he gave her may
have contributed to her attempted suicide. Kelly says he was right to
tell her to 'get out of the hole she was in' - but she shouldn't have
gone to such extreme measures to do this. She wants to make a clean
break of it and start again in London. Chris asks her if she's not just
trying to run away from her problems and suggests that people are going
to say she's come out of this whole situation pretty well. Kelly
insists that she didn't plan it and that she couldn't see any other way
out when she tried to kill herself. Despite his reservations, Chris
says that, if she's determined to move to London, he'll fix her up with
a job down there.
Jack & Sarah
The Sugdens find out the date of Andy's adoption hearing but Jack
doesn't feel like celebrating, knowing that they'll have to lie to the
court about the state of their marriage. Sarah tells him that lots of
couples only stay together for the sake of the children and that the
important thing is for them to provide a decent, loving home for the
kids. Jack agrees that they both want what's best for the children.
Chris sends Terry to the auction to bid for John Wylie's farm.
Meanwhile, Zoe is brooding over Frankie's disppearance and Chris is ,
predictably, taunting her about it, when Frankie walks back in. She
asks Zoe to phone the Woolpack for her as she didn't turn up for her
cleaning job that morning.
Later, Terry turns up at the haulage yard to break the bad news to Chris
- He has been outbid on the Wylie's farm by a mystery bidder voting by
proxy. Chris takes the news surprisingly well but is curious as to who
the mystery bidder is.
Reggie suggests to Betty that it's about time Seth found out the truth
about Betty's chequered past. While Reggie is working in Bradford,
Betty decides it's time to speak to Seth and tell him everything. Seth
is more amused than anything when she reveals that she used to be a
stripper, but then she tells him about her affair with a man, falling
pregnant and having a backstreet abortion which left her unable to have
children. As she's never had a child of her own to love and care for,
she takes an interest in other people and their families, which has led
to people labelling her as 'nosey'. Seth seems sympathetic until she
reveals that the man who got her pregnant was Reggie.
Seth isn't so bothered about what happened all those years ago but is
upset that Betty didn't tell him the truth when Reggie first arrived and
that she let him become friends with Reggie and take him in as a
lodger. Betty tells Seth that it was him she was thinking of when she
decidedto keep it a secret. She had hoped that Reggie would leave of
his own accord and that Seth would never have to find out about this
whole business. Seth tells her that he needs time to think about things
and decide what he's going to do.
Eric sends Graham another anonymous letter, this time referring to the
murder of Graham's first wife. Marlon, however, is doubtful that this
approach is going to achieve anything. He suggests that they need to do
a bit of digging and find out more details about his first wife's
death. Eric agrees to go down to St Albans and have a look in the local
library for newpaper clippings on her death.
Graham, meanwhile, is obviously getting agitated by Pollard's campaign
against him and the discovery that Eric knows about his first wife's
death. He tells Kathy he thinks they should leave Emmerdale but Kathy
refuses to leave the village as most of the people she cares about live
Zak and Lisa are enjoying having a bit of time to themselves but their
peace is soon shattered by a loud hammering on the door. Zak answers
the door and they are both shocked to see Nellie Dingle on their
doorstep. Lisa looks less than pleased as Nellie flings her arms around
Zak and tells him to 'give us a big snog'.
