Bill's Blubberings Week 20/23 April 1999
I know, it should have been Dionne Dithering this week but due to the fact that that relied on a woman setting a VCR timer correctly, I am doing it instead. (OUCH! Sorry D.,couldn't resist it.)
Anyway this means that the Blubberings are a little rushed this week and done on a per episode basis instead of the normal weekly basis.
Mandy is upset because Barbara is dying. Not because of what it will mean to Barbara but because it means that Paddy has moved back to Zoe's and their wedding plans are shelved.
Graham shows Rachel his new head of department office and mentions that with his pay rise they could afford for her to stop work and have a child. Rachel again makes it clear that she intends to continue working.
Butch comes to see Mandy to offer his support and tell her that he has completed the annulment forms and returned them.
Paddy gives mum the news that she wants, that he and Mandy have parted. She immediately tries emotional blackmail by saying that the one thing that would make her really happy is to see him marry someone like Jane before she dies.
After being encouraged by Biff Marlon relents and he and Lynn get back together.
Graham goes into see Strickland to say that Rachel is not coping as a working mother and tells her to advertise the post as Rachel would be leaving.
Zoe, having missed Frankie, goes for second best by inviting Sean and Angie to her birthday party.
Strickland tells a stunned Rachel that she is sorry to lose her. Rachel denies wanting to leave and says that she will sort it out with Graham. This she does, both at school and later at home in no uncertain terms. His response is to accuse her of having no respect for HIS feelings. She comes down later saying that she is going out. (Taking it for granted that he will look after Joseph I suppose?) He forbids this but she goes anyway saying that things will have to change. This is one thing he secretly agrees with, things will change.
Breakfast. As Paddy gets ready for work Barbara tells him that she worries for his future happiness but she would be happier going to her grave if she knew he was in a relationship with a nice girl like Jane.

Chris is making breakfast for himself, not happy that Laura is very busy back in her office. Too busy, in fact for him and certainly to attend Zoe's forthcoming birthday party.
As they ready the pub for opening the girls are looking at a pair of vases that she has bought for Kelly and Roy's wedding.
even though she is not impressed a scheming Tricia tries to get Bernice to agree to say that they are from her too. This falls on deaf ears. At this point Alan comes in carrying a crate and is looking very much the worse for wear. Bernice suggests that he lay down but he says that he has to go to Hotten to collect a silver cruet set which is his wedding present. Tricia offers to go for him and is obviously up to something.
Paddy tells Marlon that he is not looking forward to telling Mandy about his mum's ideas.
Rachel is insisting that Graham go with her to see Miss Strickland to ensure she understands that Rachel does not want to leave. He reluctantly agrees.
Mandy is showing Piggy the wedding dress as Paddy comes to tell her of the conversation with Barbara that morning. She is not a happy budgie.
Rachel and Graham make their peace with Miss Strickland who asks Rachel to wait as Graham leaves. Whilst she doesn't want to intrude she questions Grahams attitude toward her. (Don't we all?)
Chris has come to apologise to Kathy for what he said about Biff. As he does Biff tells him to push off only to be slapped down by Kathy who reminds him that it is her place and that she decides who is welcome.
Lunchtime. We see Lynn and two friends talking outside. In the foreground drugs are being dealt by lads on motorcycles. When Graham is spotted they drive away, one of them dropping a package. At that moment Lynn and her friends happen to walk in that direction with Lynn stepping directly over the package. Graham sees this and calls her back accusing her of dropping what we now see as a small quantity of cannabis resin. She denies all knowledge of the drug but he decides that this must be sorted in his office.
Zoe bumps onto Pete and just happens to ask after Frankie to be told that she will not usually be found in the same places as Zoe as he sees her as one of the 'cheese and wine' set. Zoe points out that he may be surprised. Tricia comes back from Hotten with a cheap blender instead of the expensive cruet, telling Alan that she knows best what Kelly and Roy need. When he queries about change she says that she spent it having her legs waxed.
Lynn is terrified at the thought of being suspended and not being able to continue with her A levels especially when the dope wasn't even hers. Graham says that he wants to know who the dealers are whilst Lynn is trying to convince him that she knows nothing. He relents saying that he will ensure that the dope is incinerated in return for her helping him to find the dealers. As she leaves we see Graham pocket the package.
Biff refers to Chris as 'poison' but Kathy is upset because, as far as she is concerned, he wanted only to apologise. Biff offers to apologise to Chris but Kathy says that it would be better coming from her.
Mandy is telling Piggy that she must try to get to see Barbara to stop her blackmailing Paddy into getting together with Jane.
Zoe, much to Chris's astonishment, invites all the Tate Haulage drivers to her birthday party on the pretext of showing company solidarity, but Sean realises the real reason.
Graham gets Miss Strickland to agree to let him organise an anti-drug campaign.
Zoe comes home early to arrange her party letting Piggy go early to help Mandy hatch her cunning plan.

Kathy comes to see Chris to apologise for Biff's temper. She believes Chris's lies that he just wants them to remain friends.
There is no reply but Mandy finds an open window for Piggy to squeeze through.
Lynn is worried what Graham might be saying to Angie Reynolds. He is asking her to speak to the school about the drugs problem. She agrees saying that she will also arrange for a sniffer dog to attend. An unsuspecting Rachel thinks it is a brilliant idea. Laura questions Zoe's motives for inviting the drivers to her birthday party when Chris arrives moaning about it. Laura accuses him of being a stick in the mud.
Mandy and Piggy are inside but the house is empty. Piggy has found Barbara's diary with an appointment at a Holistic Therapy Centre scheduled for that day. They decide to see Barbara there. When they arrive it is obvious that it is a fitness club and, lo and behold, they see a fit Barbara on an exercise cycle, plugged into a walkman looking the complete opposite of a woman with just six months to live. Mandy decides to store the evidence until she finds how best to use it.
Chris is there still trying to get Zoe to rescind her invitation to the Tate Haulage drivers. Mandy comes in with the news about how Barbara is faking her illness. Paddy is gobsmacked, he realises that the 'doctor' he saw must have been a friend of Barbara's from the local Am-Dram society. He and Mandy decide to plot revenge.
Graham invites Rachel to come to the drugs talk at school later that day. Then while she is upstairs he plants the dope found the previous day in her handbag.
Chris invites Kathy and Biff to dinner the following tuesday to patch things up. It is obvious that Chris expects Biff to refuse and he already knows that Laura is tied up that night.
Far from being on her death bed, Barbara is downstairs hoovering when the phone rings. It is Paddy. He says that he has something to tell her about him and Jane and he is coming over straight away. She rushes back upstairs to wait for him.
In the hall Angie calls a break in her talk to introduce a demonstration by Muttley, the sniffer dog. The dog does well, ignoring the bait, going straight to Rachel's handbag instead. When Angie asks her to empty her bag, Rachel pulls out the dope that Graham had planted. Rachel is arrested and Strickland goes with her to Hotten nick.
Alan is still showing signs of being unwell, he is stopped short in the bar by a pain in his chest which also causes him to hold his left arm. Mandy comes in to tell Lisa and Zak about Barbara and to ask for their assistance in getting her own back.
As expected, Biff refuses to go to the dinner at Chris's.
Paddy comes in and says that he is worried that Barbara is alone so much during her last days so he tells her visitors to come in....The whole Dingle clan! They come in and she is shocked to find out that they have drawn up a rota to ensure that one of them will be at her bedside at all times. She has been made an Honorary Dingle. Butch at this time is laying on the bed beside her, complete with boots covered in pig muck. Paddy invites her to get up and make way for Zak as well and as he gets on the bed she does prompting cries of 'miracle cure.' The game is up and Paddy makes it clear how he feels. He tells her that he never wants to see her again unless it is when she turns up at his marriage to Mandy.
Rachel is released on police bail while the dope is tested. Strickland is there to take her home and also to tell her she is suspended pending enquiries.
Pear Tree Cottage
Chris tells Laura about the dinner party and that Biff has declined. Laura, as expected, then tell him that she cannot make it that night so it will be just he and Kathy.
Betty, having found out about Rachel in the Post Office, comes to see Rachel who runs off into the house. Graham arrives and promises her that he will look after her for ever. his last words being "Trust me." (YEAH!)
